Job summary

MKS Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer Co-op in the Valves group in Andover, MA.

You will develop embedded software for vacuum valve products under mentorship from senior engineers and collaborate with hardware and controls teams to solve customer problems. You will gain hands-on experience with C/C++, Python, and various debugging tools, learn to read schematics, and contribute to test automation and data analysis.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science or relevant majors.
• Experience in embedded software development with a working knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
• Familiar with PC-based development environment, emulators, oscilloscopes, and other equipment for embedded systems development.
• Understanding of microcontrollers and/or DSPs with multiple peripherals and communication interfaces.
• Able to read and understand electrical schematics and troubleshoot.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded software with mentorship to support existing and new MKS pressure control valves used in semiconductor manufacturing & other vacuum applications.
• Collaborate with Hardware and Controls Engineering staff to develop innovative solutions to customer problems.
• Troubleshoot issues at the hardware and system level.
• Perform tests and develop test automation scripts to validate firmware and system-level valve functionality and features; collect and analyze data and document procedures and results.
• Communicate technical information effectively in both oral and written form.

A Day in Your Life at MKS:
As a Software Engineer Co-op within the Valves group, you will work alongside a team of experienced engineers to develop vacuum valve products and find innovative ways to solve customer problems. In this role, you will report to the Engineering Manager.

Intern / Co-op Program Overview:

• 3-month co-op assignment within a functional area of MKS Inc. that provides students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before your program starts to after the program ends.

Intern/Co-op Term: This is a 3-month summer co-op
You Will Make an Impact By:

• Developing embedded software with mentorship from senior Software Engineers in support of existing and new MKS pressure control valves used in semiconductor manufacturing & other vacuum applications.
• Working with the Hardware and Controls Engineering staff to develop innovative solutions to customer problems.
• Troubleshooting issues at the hardware and system level.
• Performing tests and develop test automation scripts to validate firmware and system-level control valve functionality and features. Collect and analyze the data and document the procedures and results.
• Communicating technical information effectively in both oral and written form.

Skills You Bring:

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science or relevant majors
• Experience in embedded software development with a working knowledge of C/C++ and Python.
• Familiar with PC-based development environment, as well as with in-circuit emulators, oscilloscopes, and other equipment for embedded systems development.
• Understanding of micro controllers and/or DSPs with multiple peripherals and communication interfaces
• Able to read and understand electrical schematics.
• Good communication skills and a “hands on” approach to problem solving.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision with strong sense of ownership and desire for excellence.

Compensation and Benefits:

Hourly Pay Range: $23.00 to $31.00 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis.
