Job summary

MKS Inc. in Andover, MA is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-op within the Direct Pressure Engineering group. You will partner with engineering to support the design, analysis, build and test of capacitance sensors and transducers, reporting to the Director of Engineering.

You will build prototypes, diagnose production issues, perform SolidWorks/COMSOL analyses, test transducers, analyze data and help design test equipment through 3D printing and CNC milling. Up to 10% travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering.
• Familiar with SolidWorks CAD modeling.
• Experience with data processing in Excel, MATLAB, or Python.
• Comfortable using standard hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist design, analysis, build and test of capacitance sensors and transducers.
• Build prototype designs and help diagnose production issues.
• Perform mechanical and thermal analyses using SolidWorks and COMSOL.
• Test sensors and analyze data to support test reports.
• Assist in designing and fabricating test equipment via 3D printing or CNC milling.

"A Day in Your Life at MKS

As a Mechanical Engineering Co-op within the Direct Pressure Engineering group, you will partner with engineering to support the design, analysis, build and test of capacitance sensors and transducers In this role, you will report to the Director, Engineering.

Intern / Co-op Program Overview

• 6-month co-op assignment within a functional area of MKS Inc. that provides students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before your program starts to after the program ends.

Intern/Co-op Term: This is a 6-month internship/co-op beginning in January 2027.

You Will Make An Impact By

• Work closely with engineering and production to build prototype designs
• Help diagnose production related issues with sensor performance
• Perform various types of mechanical and thermal analyses using SolidWorks and/or COMSOL FEA with the help/guidance of senior Mechanical Engineers
• Test pressure transducers at the sensor and system level
• Analyze test data and produce detailed reports
• Support design and troubleshooting of test systems
• Design and fabricate test equipment via 3D printing, CNC milling, etc.
• Travel Requirements: Up to 10% of Travel is required.

Skills You Bring

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering
• Comfortable with using standard hand tools for building electromechanical devices and test systems
• SolidWorks CAD modeling
• Microsoft Excel, MATLAB or Python script writing for data processing
• Familiar with basic electrical testing and debugging methods
• Qualified candidate must be US Persons

Preferred Skills

• Capability to perform extensive test data analysis
• Good understanding of mechanical design principles
• Good understanding of heat transfer principles
• Familiar with using test instrumentation like thermocouples, strain gauges, infrared cameras, etc.

Compensation And Benefits

Hourly Pay Range: $23.00 to $31.00 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At MKS, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Benefits: MKS offers a benefits package for interns/co-ops working at least 20 hours per week, including 11 paid holidays, sick time, and 15 paid vacation days accrued on a biweekly basis.
