Job summary

Leonardo DRS in Melbourne, FL is seeking a Systems Engineering Intern to support the Imaging Performance specialty engineering group by performing testing and evaluation of infrared cameras, data analysis and related tasks as skills allow. The candidate will work closely with engineers in the conduct of various assignments in a lab environment.

The internship runs 12–14 weeks onsite (9/80) with a 40-hour work week. U.S.

Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in a 4-year engineering program (EE, CE, Optics, or Physics).
  • Completed at least 2 years of college with a 3.0 GPA or better.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems with curiosity.
  • Team player or capable of independent work.
  • Available for full-time onsite work (40 hours/week).
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Familiar with Matlab.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with engineers on various engineering assignments.
  • Perform testing in lab or outdoor field testing.
  • Conduct imaging analysis under supervision of engineers.
  • Provide regular progress reports.
  • Complete tasks on time.
  • Document requirements, verification plans, and test results.
  • Explore staff methods and practices to gain familiarity.
  • Support and reinforce the mission and culture of the organization.
  • Assist in developing plant layouts, manufacturing methods and process improvements.
  • Coordinate maintenance projects when needed.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work closely with and assist engineers in the conduct of various engineering assignments
  • Perform testing activities in an engineering lab environment and/ or outdoor field testing
  • Conduct imaging analysis under the supervision of engineers
  • Provide regular reporting of progress and status
  • Complete assigned tasks on time
  • Documentation of requirements, verification plans and test results
  • Perform a wide variety of tasks to gain familiarity with the engineering staff, methods, programs, and practices
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Assist in the development of plant layouts, manufacturing methods and process improvements
  • May coordinate maintenance projects
Qualifications
  • Must be actively enrolled in a 4-year undergraduate Engineering Program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Optics or Physics related degree.
  • Have completed at least 2 years of college with a 3.0 GPA or better.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using your natural curiosity.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team or on individual tasks.
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) onsite
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required
