Job summary

Hanson Professional Services Inc. in Indianapolis offers a Civil Engineering internship focused on roadway design and construction documentation. Interns will work on rural and urban roadways, freeways, and interstates, using MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD Civil3D.

This is a hands-on role designed to build broad professional skills in a collaborative setting. Interns must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program and ideally have completed their sophomore year.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations and survey assistance.
• Document and observe construction operations.
• Write memos, letters, or reports; maintain records; attend meetings.

Our Roadway Engineering discipline includes Civil Engineers who plan, design, and prepare construction documents for rural and urban roadways, freeways, and interstates for local, state, and private clients. Design includes vertical and horizontal alignments, geometric design, intersections and interchanges, roadside safety, pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, pavement marking and signage, utility coordination, erosion control, and construction staging. Software including MicroStation with OpenRoads/Geopak or AutoCAD with Civil3D are often used for this work, which may include 3D modeling of the existing and proposed improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Gathering and/or providing data for the preparation of engineering or environmental reports and studies.
• Performing and/or reviewing calculations or reports such as those related to geometrics, transportation engineering, and quantities.
• Utilizing engineering software packages such as MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCad/Civil3D.
• Conducting field investigations and/or survey assistance to gather information.
• Documenting and/or observing construction operations.
• Performing related duties such as writing memoranda, letters, or general reports; collecting and correlating engineering data; maintaining records; and attending meetings.

Qualifications

Interns must be actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program. The ideal candidate will have successfully completed their sophomore year and be actively enrolled in an accredited 4-year college or university.

Hourly Rate

The hourly range for this position is $21 - $26 per hour for undergraduates. $30 - $40 per hour for postgraduates.
