Hanson Professional Services Inc. in Indiana seeks an undergraduate Roadway Engineering intern to assist on rural and urban roadways, freeways, and interstates.

You’ll learn planning, design, and documentation with supervision from a Hanson Professional Engineer. The role requires enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program, sophomore standing, strong communication and analytical skills, and familiarity with MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD/Civil3D.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program and currently a sophomore.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work in teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Preparing plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Gathering data for engineering or environmental reports and studies.
• Performing calculations related to geometrics and transportation engineering.
• Utilizing MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD/Civil3D.
• Conducting field investigations and survey assistance.
• Documenting construction operations and attending meetings.

Design includes vertical and horizontal alignments, geometric design, intersections and interchanges, roadside safety, pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, pavement marking and signage, utility coordination, erosion control, and construction staging. Software including MicroStation with OpenRoads/Geopak or AutoCAD with Civil3D are often used for this work, which may include 3D modeling of the existing and proposed improvements.Key Responsibilities: Roadway Engineering interns will be expected to perform the following key responsibilities with supervision and assistance from a Hanson Professional Engineer:Preparing plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.Gathering and/or providing data for the preparation of engineering or environmental reports and studies.Performing and/or reviewing calculations or reports such as those related to geometrics, transportation engineering, and quantities.Utilizing engineering software packages such as MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCad/Civil3DConducting field investigations and/or survey assistance to gather information.Documenting and/or observing construction operations.Performing related duties such as writing memoranda, letters, or general reports; collecting and correlating engineering data; maintaining records; and attending meetings.Qualifications:Interns must be actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering program.
