Job summary

Hanson Professional Services, Inc. in Lisle, IL is seeking an internship in Roadway Engineering. Interns will assist in preparing plans, designs, and cost estimates, gather data for reports, and perform calculations under supervision.

You'll use MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD/Civil3D, conduct field surveys, and help document construction operations while developing core civil engineering skills in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

Actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program.
Sophomore year completed and enrolled in a 4-year college or university.
Strong written and oral communication skills and analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

Preparing plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
Gathering and/or providing data for reports and studies.
Performing and/or reviewing calculations related to geometrics and transportation engineering.
Utilizing MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and AutoCad/Civil3D.
Conducting field investigations and survey assistance.
Documenting and observing construction operations.

Our Roadway Engineering discipline includes Civil Engineers who plan, design, and prepare construction documents for rural and urban roadways, freeways, and interstates for local, state, and private clients. Design includes vertical and horizontal alignments, geometric design, intersections and interchanges, roadside safety, pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, pavement marking and signage, utility coordination, erosion control, and construction staging. Software including MicroStation with OpenRoads/Geopak or AutoCAD with Civil3D are often used for this work, which may include 3D modeling of the existing and proposed improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Roadway Engineering interns will be expected to perform the following key responsibilities with supervision and assistance from a Hanson Professional Engineer:

Preparing plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
Gathering and/or providing data for the preparation of engineering or environmental reports and studies.
Performing and/or reviewing calculations or reports such as those related to geometrics, transportation engineering, and quantities.
Utilizing engineering software packages such as MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCad/Civil3D
Conducting field investigations and/or survey assistance to gather information.
Documenting and/or observing construction operations.
Performing related duties such as writing memoranda, letters, or general reports; collecting and correlating engineering data; maintaining records; and attending meetings.

Qualifications

Interns must be actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program.
The ideal candidate will have successfully completed their sophomore year and be actively enrolled in a 4-year college or university.

The hourly range for this position is $21 - $26 per hour for undergraduates.

$30 - $40 per hour for postgraduates.
