Job summary

Chippewa County Department of Land Conservation and Forest Management is seeking an Engineer Intern to provide technical support for conservation programs and serve county residents. This seasonal, limited-term internship runs May–November 2027 for about 975 hours, with up to 40 hours a week. Start date may vary with school schedule.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, biosystems/biological engineering, environmental engineering, agricultural engineering, or related field.
  • Knowledge of drafting and surveying fundamentals preferred.
  • Knowledge of CAD and ArcGIS software preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in layout and inspection of construction projects.
  • Perform site topographic surveys.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, reports, and bid documents in CAD software.
  • Perform natural resource inventories and mapping; geologic investigations; and site evaluations.
  • Perform engineering design computations.
  • Assist engineers with review and permitting of agricultural pollution control proposals and urban storm water management proposals.
  • Present educational information at department sponsored educational events.

JOB SUMMARY

The job duties of the Engineer Intern include technical support of the conservation programs administered by Chippewa County Department of Land Conservation and Forest Management; and to provide responsive, courteous and efficient service to County residents and the general public. Start date may vary with school schedule. This is a limited term internship position and requires up to 40 hours per week during a period of 6-7 months for a commitment of 975 hours.

This position is seasonal, non-recurring, and limited term which requires up to 40 hours per week during a 6-7 month period May – November 2027 for a commitment of 975 hours.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties described below are indicative of what the Engineer Intern might be asked to perform. This job description is to incorporate any county ordinances created for the position of Engineer Intern. This is not an exhaustive list of job responsibilities and therefore other duties may be assigned:

Administrative Functions:
  • Assist in layout and inspection of construction projects.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required at the time of hire or for the continuation of employment.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, biosystems/biological engineering, environmental engineering, agricultural engineering, or other related course of study.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of drafting and surveying preferred.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and materials preferred.
  • Knowledge of CAD, and ArcGIS software preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
