Job summary

United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM) offers a Building Operations Summer Internship Program that provides hands-on experience in facility management and operations. Interns will work closely with the Building Operations Team on HVAC systems, space planning, safety, and vendor coordination.

The program features job shadowing, access to senior leaders, and extensive networking opportunities, with hands-on projects and events.

Qualifications

• Must be graduating in 2027 or 2028 (current junior/senior).
• Available to work on-site 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday, in Pontiac, MI from May 17 through August 6.
• Willingness to learn and be coached in a dynamic industry.
• Ability to thrive in a team environment.
• Interest in HVAC systems or mechanical engineering is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on experience in building operations and facility management.
• Support HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems maintenance and monitoring.
• Assist in space planning, vendor coordination, and safety/compliance activities.
• Provide logistical support for events, meetings, and conferences.

Job description

UWM's 12-week internship program offers an immersive experience with around 200 interns, job shadowing, access to senior leaders, and extensive networking opportunities. Experience our one-of-a-kind workplace that thrives on collaboration, teamwork, and innovation. This internship is designed to give you a running start, not one that has you running errands.

The Building Operations Summer Internship Program is a hands-on, immersive experience designed to provide students with practical knowledge and skills in facility management and operations. Interns will work closely with our Building Operations Team, gaining real-world experience in maintaining and optimizing UWM’s physical environment. Key areas include but are not limited to HVAC system maintenance and management, general facility and maintenance management, space planning and utilization, safety and compliance, event support, and vendor coordination.

What You Will Be Doing

BUILDING ENGINEERING

• Gain chiller exposure – Central Plant
• Assist in building envelope maintenance
• Work with the Energy Star Platform
• Learn about electrical continuity
• Support the monitoring and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems to ensure optimal performance
• Provide logistical support for company events, meetings, and conferences, including setup, equipment arrangement, and space readiness

What We Need From You

MUST HAVE:

• Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2027 or 2028 (current junior/senior status)
• The ability to work Monday thru Friday, 40-hours a week, fully on-site in Pontiac, MI from May 17th - August 6th
• An openness to learning, willingness to be coached, and ability to be flexible in our every-changing industry
• Ability to thrive in a team environment
• A strong work ethic

Nice To Have

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program with a focus on Climate Control, HVAC, or Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on HVAC systems.
