Job summary

Deer Park School District #414 is seeking a Substitute Classroom Teacher to provide instruction, counsel, discipline and supervision to meet the individual needs of students and evaluate performance and progress. Position Opening Announcement
Substitute Classroom Teacher

Purpose Statement:

Fosters and enhances an effective learning environment; provides instruction, counsels, disciplines, and supervises to meet the individual needs of assigned students and evaluates student performance and progress.

Essential Functions:
  1. Fosters an educational environment conducive to the learning and maturation process of assigned students, utilizing and maintaining district/building curricular and student learning objectives.
  2. Maintains classroom discipline and uses effective classroom management skills.
  3. Notifies the principal or designee of any issues in the classroom, seeking assistance and guidance as needed.
  4. Covers the preparation period of other teachers as assigned.
  5. Directs the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel and provides input into the evaluation as appropriate.
  6. Supervises during preparation periods, recess, and lunch as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree and current valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsements appropriate for the assignment.
  2. Successful teaching experience in related subject areas and/or grade levels is preferred. If no prior experience, must have successful student teaching experience.

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students.
  3. Demonstrated skill in the use of technology to enhance student learning preferred
  4. Demonstrated classroom management skills and ability to differentiate instruction.
  5. Evidence of ability to develop positive and collaborative relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
  6. Demonstrated appreciation of and sensitivity to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and various disabilities.
  7. Commitment and adherence to confidentiality and other professional standards.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT and Salary:

This is outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of the Deer Park Education Association (DPEA) and the Policies and Procedures of Deer Park School District. The daily substitute rate for 6.5 hours per day is $160, or 3.75 hours per day is $80. Other forms of compensation may be available as defined within the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
