Purpose Statement: The job of Custodian III is to support the educational process by providing custodial services at an assigned elementary school. Responsibilities include ensuring a safe, attractive, and sanitary environment for students, staff, and visitors, performing special cleaning operations, preparing facilities for classroom activities and campus events, scheduling contracted custodians, and ensuring complete and proper performance of tasks.

Reporting to: Building Administrator and Supervisor of Custodial and Grounds
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Skills: Monitor electrical and mechanical systems (fire and security alarms); operate equipment and materials used in industrial maintenance; assemble and repair office/classroom equipment; operate a computer and relevant software; and prepare and maintain accurate records.
Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percentages, ratios); understand written procedures, write routine documents, speak clearly; comprehend complex, multi‑step written and oral instructions; guidelines for storage and use of chemicals; industrial cleaning methods (floor, carpet); basic tools for minor repairs; general maintenance tasks (plumbing, electrical, painting); safety practices and procedures.
Ability: Schedule activities, meetings, events; gather and collate data; consider factors when using equipment; flexibility to work with others; handle a wide diversity of individuals; problem‑solve and create action plans; adapt to changing priorities; meet deadlines; maintain rapport with students, staff, and community.
Working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilizing resources from other work units as necessary. Continuous opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. 10% sitting, 80% walking, 10% standing. Work under temperature extremes and conditions with risk of injury or illness.
