Job summary

Chevron Corporation invites Mechanical Engineering students to join a structured internship program in Houston. Interns will work under a mechanical engineering mentor on projects across facilities, applying core engineering knowledge and project management skills to improve safety, reliability and value.

Successful interns may be offered a return internship or a full-time position, with graduates entering the Horizons program to receive formal training, mentoring, and cross-disciplinary

Qualifications

  • Students pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering are expected.
  • Strong academic performance in core mechanical engineering programs is required.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills are expected.
  • Ability to demonstrate The Chevron Way is required.

Job description

What You’ll Actually Do

Mechanical Engineering interns will be assigned a mechanical engineering mentor and one or more projects during their internship to support operating facilities through the application of technical engineering knowledge and project management skills.

  • Optimizing facilities to deliver maximum value safely and reliably.
  • Providing technical engineering support for turnarounds and projects.
  • Developing and/or deploying industry‑leading technologies to reduce carbon, increase efficiency and maximize returns.
  • Using digitalization and data analytics to improve process operations and safety.

At the completion of the internship, interns will have the opportunity to apply for a return internship or a full‑time position with Chevron.

If accepted for a full‑time entry‑level position, engineering graduates will be enrolled in the Horizons Program, an early‑career development program that combines formal training, on‑the‑job competency development, mentoring, and multiple job assignments.

Mechanical Engineers who complete Horizons may continue in roles aligned with their initial track or focus on other areas, such as:

  • Reliability & Integrity Engineering
  • Technical Safety Engineering
  • Subsea Engineering
  • Engineering Design & Projects
  • General Facilities Engineering
What You Must Have
  • Students pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Strong academic performance in core mechanical engineering programs.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, teamwork and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate The Chevron Way.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Anticipated monthly (hourly) range: $28.25 hourly – $8,300 monthly (dependent on role, degree level and academic year).
  • Furnished housing.
  • Participation in the Employee Savings Investment Plan with immediate vesting in both employee and company contributions (4% company match for a 1% employee contribution; 8% company match for a 2% employee contribution).
  • Flexible work schedules (5/40, 9/80 or 4/10), paid holidays, and full year of service credit for each internship completion (conditioned on re‑employment within 365 days).
  • Competitive pay and benefits for full‑time new graduate positions, including healthcare, time off, retirement plans and development opportunities.

Relocation may be considered.
