PURPOSE OF JOB:
Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of specific activities sponsored.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership in team dynamics according to MSHSAA standards for the activity of Dance;
- Implement and enforce activity standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions for sponsors;
- Plan and administer Assistant Sponsor responsibilities;
- Plan activities that support the school’s athletic teams;
- Oversee the Dance Team performing three (3) productions for the following athletic contests: Homecoming, Court Warming, plus one other school-specific event;
- Coordinate team support for soccer, baseball, track, cross country, and swim, either through promotion or participation in a “cheer section” during contests or events;
- Assist in the coordination of the program;
- Supervise students during practices and contests;
- Coordinate transportation and game management with the athletic team Head Coach;
- Ensure proper care of equipment and facilities, inspect all athletic equipment and facilities, verify inventory, and submit documentation to the Athletic Director;
- Organize and schedule regular practice sessions aimed at maximizing student-participant potential;
- Emphasize safety precautions and stay informed about best training and injury management procedures;
- Conduct practices and contests ethically, exemplifying high standards of sportsmanship;
- Ensure understanding and enforcement of building use regulations and hours;
- Arrange for systematic return of all school equipment, maintain accurate inventory, and hold students responsible for equipment not returned, in accordance with the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook;
- Maintain records of team and individual achievements, and organize the issuance of letters and awards, submitting all information to the Athletic Director within two weeks after the season ends;
- Collaborate with the site-based Athletic Director to support a strong program;
- Pursue professional growth through clinics and publications;
- Complete the MSHSAA Coaching Principles Course and First Aid Requirement;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student-participants
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a Teacher's Certificate, valid Substitute Certificate, or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, using hands and fingers, reaching, bending, stooping, lifting objects of at least fifteen (15) pounds, and visual acuity including mono and color vision. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.
