Job description

PURPOSE OF JOB: Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of specific sports coached.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Coordinate specific sport with a full team in compliance with MSHSAA standards;
  2. Assist in implementing athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions;
  3. Assist in the coordination of the program;
  4. Assist in the supervision of students at practices and contests;
  5. Help provide information for transportation, facilities, officials, and game management;
  6. Help organize and schedule practice sessions regularly to develop the student-athlete’s potential;
  7. Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of best training and injury management procedures;
  8. Conduct team and self in an ethical manner during practices and contests, exemplifying high standards of sportsmanship;
  9. Assist in the systematic return of all school equipment in accordance with the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook;
  10. Continue professional growth through clinics and professional publications;
  11. Successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses;
  12. Fulfill 8 contact hours of professional development, including:
    1. 4 hours at district level meetings;
    2. 3 hours at school level meetings;
    3. 1 hour at outside meetings/clinics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Must have a Teacher's Certificate or valid Substitute Certificate or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Be a full or part-time employee in the District.
  2. Employed in the school as a teacher or administrator in which the candidate applies for a position.
