Job description

PURPOSE OF JOB: Provide leadership for the school’s athletic program through the development, implementation, and improvement of specific sports coached.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate specific sport with a full team in compliance with MSHSAA standards;
  2. Assist in implementing athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all required sessions;
  3. Assist in the coordination of the program;
  4. Supervise students at practices and contests;
  5. Provide information for transportation, facilities, officials, and game management;
  6. Organize and schedule practice sessions regularly to develop student-athletes’ potential;
  7. Emphasize safety precautions and follow best training and injury management procedures;
  8. Conduct oneself and the team ethically during practices and contests, exemplifying high standards of sportsmanship;
  9. Assist in the systematic return of school equipment according to the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook;
  10. Pursue professional growth through clinics and publications;
  11. Successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses;
  12. Fulfill 8 contact hours of professional development, including 4 hours at district-level meetings, 3 hours at school-level meetings, and 1 hour at outside meetings/clinics.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student-athletes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

  1. Must have a Teacher's Certificate, valid Substitute Certificate, or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Be a full or part-time employee in the District;
  2. Employed in the school as a teacher or administrator where the candidate applies for a position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, using hands and fingers, reaching, bending, stooping, and lifting objects of at least 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
