Qualifications

Job description

1st Class Outside Machinist

Location: Harvey, LA

Position Overview: A 1st Class Outside Machinist is responsible for installing vessel machinery using blueprints and hand tools, with knowledge of air controls and tubing bending.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Read and interpret standard construction drawings, specifications, and other technical publications.
2. Understand system start-up procedures, propulsion system alignment, and machinery plants.
3. Familiarity with commercial and military specifications and standards.
4. Use necessary tools and equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, heavy jacks, chain falls, torch).
5. Have some experience or background in welding.
6. Install vessel machinery through blueprints and hand tools.
7. Conduct operational testing of installed systems.
8. Perform tasks related to air controls and tubing bending.
9. Familiarize with all aspects of marine construction from design to installation and testing.

Experience:

• Minimum of eight (8) years of marine experience or four (4) years of continuous company experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

• Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings.
• Strong understanding of marine construction techniques.
• Effective use of precision tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of system start-up procedures and machinery operations.
