Job description

Come join First Coast Terminals LLC! First Coast Terminals is the nation's leading multi-generational stevedoring and cargo operator committed to safety and the development of innovative solutions for the unique needs of the U.S. maritime industry, and they are seeking an 1st Class Mechanic - Heavy Equipment to join the team at our Jacksonville, FL terminal.

In this position you will:

be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered heavy equipment used in port operations - including top loaders, forklifts, and other specialized machinery.

Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and electrical components on various heavy equipment
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and inspections to ensure optimal equipment performance and safety compliance
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts usage, and work orders using maintenance software or logs
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues in a timely and efficient manner to minimize downtime
  • Operate diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical failures
  • Collaborate with supervisors and other lead team members to prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks
  • Comply with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Provide support during emergency equipment breakdowns and after-hours repairs when needed
  • Other tasks and projects, as assigned

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Company in any necessary duties to achieve Company goals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Adherence to the Integrated Management System that covers Quality (ISO 9001:2008), Environmental (ISO 14001:2004), and Safety (OHSAS 18001:2007).
The ideal candidate will have:

Qualifications (Education, Experience, & Certifications) -

  1. Vocational or technical certification in diesel mechanics or related field preferred
  2. Minimum 5 years of verifiable hands-on experience as diesel or heavy equipment mechanic and/or working in port or terminal operations
  3. Proficient in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and hydraulic systems
  4. Familiarity with Taylor, Liebherr, Caterpillar, Komatsu, and/or other heavy equipment brands commonly used in the transportation, terminal handling and maritime industry
  5. Valid driver's license (CDL a plus)
  6. ASE or OEM certifications

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities -

  1. Ability to read and interpret technical data, service manuals, schematics, diagnostics and internal documentation.
  2. Ability to learn and operate maintenance and repair software.
  3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, clients, and customers.
