Responsibilities

  • Install service connections and manage disconnects/reconnects.
  • Maintain safety guidelines and vehicle/equipment upkeep.
  • Respond to emergency call outs and work overtime/weekends when needed.

POSITION SUMMARY

The 1st, 2nd, 3rd class Lineman is required to plan and layout working details. This position must be able to do the most complicated construction and maintenance work on energized and non-energized transmission and underground or overhead distribution conductors, structures and equipment, and be qualified to perform the following and related work as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Dig pole and anchor holes; frame and set poles and anchors; install guy wire; and, sag and tie-in conductors.
  • Assist with relocating, rebuilding, and adding poles on existing lines for state and county road construction.
  • Assist with installation of transformers, switches, voltage regulators, oil circuit-reclosers, capacitors, meters, and other electrical apparatus.
  • Install service. Connect, disconnect, and reconnect.
  • Assist with cutting in double-end for two-way feeds and replacing lighting arrestors and guys, on energized and non-energized lines.
  • Install account numbers on meter poles.
  • Repair and replace service drops as directed. Read, change and seal meters.
  • Trim trees and brush on right-of-way for new construction or existing line.
  • Respond to emergency call outs.
  • Ensure safety guidelines are followed.
  • Maintain line vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsSKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Must be at least eighteen years of age.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Successful completion of a lineman apprentice program and possess a valid card or certificate of Journeyman Lineman status.
  • Minimum 6 months experience with a line crew in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution line work.
  • Clean background check for access to restricted and/or controlled areas. Valid Class A or B (with air brake rider) driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass random drug screens and to remain drug and alcohol free.
  • Specialized skills training/certification may be required.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified or possess the ability to obtain certification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to look beyond the standard solutions.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge of materials and tools used in line construction and maintenance work.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks related to electrical distribution construction.
  • Ability to work under any type of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work independently or as part of a team and relate well to co-workers.
  • Requires the availability for call out, including some mandatory overtime.
  • May require weekend and holiday work when necessary to meet customer demands.
  • Some travel may be required, including overnight stays and out-of-town assignments and/or training.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 100 pounds in a physical environment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for periods of time up to and exceeding 60 minutes.
  • Must have full dexterity of arms, hands and fingers.
  • Regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes and variety of terrains.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
  • Constantly moving feet throughout day.
  • Climb ladders of all types.
  • Required to have close up and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Dependable and trustworthy.
