Job summary

The School District of Philadelphia seeks a School Safety Officer (SSO) for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a 10-month, union‑represented role with SPAP, with an anticipated start date of August 17, 2026 and summers off.

The SSO provides security for facilities and events, monitors entrances, and helps maintain a safe learning environment. Starting salary is 35,562, with overtime eligibility and pre‑employment training leading to school assignments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Background checks required and successful completion of School District training.

Responsibilities

• Provide security for district facilities and activities.
• Patrol school grounds and perimeters; monitor building access and entrances.
• Respond to incidents; investigate and document incidents per procedures.
• Build positive relationships with students, staff, and community to maintain a safe environment.
• Complete and file incident reports in accordance with department guidelines.
