Job summary

Applitrack is seeking a Student Support Specialist for the Medford After-School Program to provide dedicated 1:1 support for students with significant disabilities, enabling meaningful participation in after-school activities alongside peers. The role emphasizes safety, inclusive practices, and personalized accommodations in a supportive, asset-based approach.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3+ years of direct experience supporting students with disabilities in educational, therapeutic, or structured out-of-school-time settings.
• Background working 1:1 with students in substantially separate special education classrooms or intensive support environments, including elopement, pica, and behaviors.
• Familiarity with Massachusetts special education frameworks, PBIS, and trauma-informed care; knowledge of AAC devices or visual supports is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated, individualized 1:1 support for students with significant needs during after-school activities.
• Facilitate inclusive participation alongside peers, ensuring access to enrichment, snacks, and open play in the least restrictive environment.
• Implement accommodations and behavior plans aligned to IEP/504 or after-school plans.
• Maintain proactive safety oversight for high-need safety concerns, including wandering and safety during unstructured times.
• Use de-escalation, trauma-informed practices and guide students to quiet spaces when needed.
• Model and support social-emotional learning, including turn-taking and conflict resolution.
• Coordinate with caregivers and school-day staff through regular check-ins with the Site Director.
• Glean insights on student strengths and routines to ensure day-long continuity.
• Help establish and track SEL and inclusion goals, updating strategies as needed.
