Job summary

SWEETBRIAR ELEMENTARY in Troutdale, Oregon is seeking an Educational Assistant to provide instructional assistance to students under a certified teacher's supervision. The position involves 7.5 hours per day, 26-27 EA calendar, and collaboration with classroom staff.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with students
• Bilingual skills noted (Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Somali in the district)
• Knowledge of English usage, spelling, and mathematics
• Typing with accuracy on a computer and using office machines
• Familiarity with classroom procedures and school operations
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior
• Completion of specialized trainings (RN, PT, Nutritionist, SLP, OT, BII, Assistive Tech)

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in instruction and support of students at varying needs
• Instruct students in groups or individually
• Monitor and document student progress
• Contribute to lesson planning and evaluate results
• Prepare teaching materials and grade papers as needed
• Provide interpretation/translation if bilingual duties are assigned
• Support students with personal care needs and transitions
• Assist in data collection for student behavior and develop behavior plans
• Implement social skills instruction and behavior intervention plans
• Use de-escalation and safety techniques as required
• Support development of sensory plans and self-regulation strategies
• Provide language through structured communication methods with students
• Meet students’ physical, communication, and instructional needs with adaptive tools
• Follow health protocols and perform delegated health tasks
• Work harmoniously with diverse backgrounds and communicate with stakeholders
• Perform other duties as assigned
