Job summary

Parker Early Childhood Center is seeking a Para-Educator 1:1 to support students with IEP goals in an inclusive classroom at the New Bedford Public Schools district. This role involves working under teachers and school staff to nurture academic, social, and emotional growth, including behavior support and sensory accommodations.

The position emphasizes collaboration with staff, personal care as needed, and a commitment to diversity and equity in education for school-aged children.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 48 college credits; or Passed the Para Pro test.
• Experience working with children; in an educational setting preferred.
• Experience with and/or the ability to become CPI trained if necessary.
• Experience working with children with Special Education services preferred.
• Passion to work with school aged children

Responsibilities

• Support students in learning across content areas in individual, small group, and whole group settings.
• Assist students in self-regulation and management of emotions and behavior to maximize learning.
• Provide sensory support to students and use of sensory equipment as needed.
• Assist and support communication between peers, staff, and students, including assistive technology.
• Support student transitions during arrival, dismissal, and between classes.
• Contribute to development of social, emotional, and behavioral skills for individuals or groups.
• Review student IEPs as needed to ensure needs are understood and met.
• Provide personal care assistance as needed.
