Job summary

The Home for Little Wanderers' COVE School in Plymouth, Massachusetts, seeks a 1:1 Classroom Support Counselor to provide individualized academic and therapeutic support within a co-ed private special education setting.

You will work under supervision to maintain a safe school environment, implement treatment plans, and collaborate with teaching staff on activities and transitions, while promoting social-emotional development and positive behaviour support.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One-year childcare experience in an academic or residential setting with similar population of children.
• Computer literate, including Microsoft Office with the ability to learn new software applications.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and secure school environment for school clients under supervision.
• Provide individual academic and therapeutic support to students with emotional disabilities.
• Coordinate with school staff to implement intervention strategies based on IEP/ICMP/treatment.
• Engage students with academic support, behaviour intervention and co-regulation strategies.
• Maintain familiarity with school routines and program structures.
• Support classroom activities and maintain safe, orderly participation.
• Foster healthy relationships through daily interactions aligned with IEP and treatment plans.
• Plan and participate in activities with students individually or in small groups (fewer than 8).
• Teach age-appropriate life and social skills through modelling and counselling.
• Join classroom activities as teacher support when needed.
• Assist children with transitions between activities.
• Provide First Aid as needed and maintain a safe environment.
• Coordinate care with other staff and document incidents and logs.
