Job summary

Saint Joseph Central Elementary School in Fort Wayne, Indiana is seeking a 5‑hour autistic disability 1:1 Special Education Assistant to support a student throughout the school day in inclusion and resource settings.

You will aid with instruction, behavior support, communication aids, safety, and daily living activities under licensed staff guidance; previous experience with special needs is preferred, and flexibility is essential.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Experience with students with special needs preferred.
• Must be flexible and able to relate well with students, staff and parents.
• Strong office, computer, and oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of child guidance principles and basic instructional methods is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one support to the assigned student throughout the school day and during activities.
• Assist the student access instruction and routines in both general and special education settings.
• Modify or adapt materials as directed by licensed instructional staff.
• Reinforce academic concepts previously introduced by teachers.
• Support the student with communication systems and appropriate social interactions.
