Job summary

Fort Wayne Community Schools Saint Joseph Central Elementary School, Fort Wayne, Indiana, is seeking a 4-hour Moderate Mental Disability 1:1 Special Education Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year.

The role supports teachers with instructional and daily life activities for students with special needs, in both SPED and general classrooms. Strong tutoring, communication, and computer skills are essential, with required training through the Special Education Department.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Experience with students with special needs preferred.
• Must be flexible to meet changing needs and have strong tutoring skills.
• Must have strong communication with students, staff and parents.
• Must participate in training provided by Special Education Department.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with instructional, clerical, student management and daily life activities for special education students.
• Support students in both special education and general classrooms.
• Supervise students in community settings as needed.
