Job Description

Supervises the inspection and quality control of thoroughfare, roadway and general construction projects to ensure compliance with construction contracts as required by contract plans and specifications. Management Scope: Supervises generally seven (7) Construction Inspectors.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates and supervises staff in the inspection of all elements of thoroughfare construction to ensure proper compliance with construction plans and specifications, and acts as a liaison between the construction contractor, stakeholders and the project manager to ensure construction projects are complete by the specified time period.
  • Directs and coordinates the efforts of commercial testing laboratory personnel services to provide quality assurance by testing construction materials.
  • Coordinates the efforts of public and private utility companies to ensure the proper relocation and adjustment of facilities to clear construction of paving, storm sewers and bridges; participates and assists the utility coordinator in monthly utility conferences; and inspects and reviews utility work prior to and during construction.
  • Provides for and ensures timely measurements of quantities of construction items by staff to ascertain amount of payments to contractors.
  • Provides assistance in recruiting and training staff, coordinating work assignments, evaluating performance and initiating disciplinary actions, if necessary.
  • Leads strategic or project matrix teams and provides technical advice for the development and delivery of projects; assists project manager with coordinating and conducting meetings; performs construction reviews on preliminary and final plans; and attends key project and project review board meetings.
  • Submits weekly summaries for projects and inspectors, and conducts field and project tours.
  • Performs and provides technical assistance and assists in obtaining current technology training for construction inspectors.
  • Assists and performs duties for other County departments, agencies and stakeholders necessary in the development of effective infrastructure/roadway management and construction; and assists in the preparation of newsletters or general project information to the public.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education, Experience and Training: Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or in a job related field of study. Two (2) years of professional work-related experience.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Skilled in the use of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments and the general public. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, with a good driving record.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

Ability to travel to various work site locations
