Job Summary

The field inspector will provide support to the project management team in the form of field support. As a Field Inspector specializing in roadway infrastructure, drainage systems, utility coordination, traffic control, SW3P management, and safety, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with all aspects related to these critical elements within construction projects. Expected to be initiative-taking and proactive when it comes to project support functions. Your role will involve conducting detailed inspections, coordinating, and implementing measures to maintain safety, regulatory compliance, and project efficiency. Documenting construction progress and providing frequent reports as well as providing administrative support to Project Manager and Quality Control Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Project oversight: Inspect TxDOT/Local construction projects activities in accordance with established quality procedures and evaluate compliance with project plans, specifications, shop drawings and other project related documents.
  • Documentation: Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting findings, observations, and maintain detailed records of construction activities, including daily reports, inspection logs, and photographs per TxDOT standard logs, forms, and procedures.
  • Conduct Inspections: Perform regular inspections of construction sites, buildings, equipment, or other facilities to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Monitor adherence to project specifications and environmental regulations. Ensure that all construction activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Communication: Coordinate and communicate with project managers, contractors, and regulatory agencies regarding inspection findings and compliance issues. As well as provide updates on progress or delays of tasks or assignments.
  • Site Evaluation: Evaluate site conditions, operational practices, and procedures to identify areas for improvement or optimization.
  • Problem Resolution: Assist in resolving disputes, violations, or conflicts related to inspections or compliance issues. Identify potential problems and develop solutions to prevent delays and cost overruns.
  • Report Preparation: Compile and maintain accurate records, logs, and inspection reports for regulatory and internal purposes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to spot and address issues in construction work.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and coordination.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Skill in identifying and resolving construction-related issues.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of construction safety regulations and best practices.
  • Teamwork: Must be able to work as a part of a team with Project Managers, Program Managers, to oversee the daily management, coordination, supervision, and successful completion of construction projects.
Education and Experience
  • Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years’ experience as a construction inspector.
  • Trained in OSHA construction safety.Proven experience in roadway construction, drainage systems, utility coordination, traffic control, SW3P management, or related fields. Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations is essential.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC), or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering are beneficial but NOT required.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, stop, and talk.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
  • You will frequently be required to use hands and reach.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, focus vision and depth vision.
  • Travel to project site may require maneuvering over rough and uneven terrain. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Able to use hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels, and picks.
Special Requirements
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Pre-employment drug screen.
