Job summary

Gizli is seeking a Well Planning Engineer in Turkey to lead the design and planning of drilling programs. You will prepare detailed well plans, review third‑party designs, and monitor operations to ensure alignment with the company handover process.

You will also analyze offset wells, maintain documentation, track KPIs, and participate in quarterly performance reviews while coordinating with geoscience for scope options and cost estimates. Rig visits are expected several times a year.

Responsibilities

• Identify and prepare well design and planning requirements per Well Handover Process.
• Provide engineering input to Well Programs under the Senior Well Planning Engineer’s tasks.
• Prepare detailed well plans including casing, hydraulics, cementing; review third‑party designs and support operations.
• Conduct offset well analysis and prepare diagrams and Phase Completion Reports; review Time-Depth and Cost-Depth charts daily.
• Maintain and archive all well documentation in accordance with the process.
• Ensure Company KPIs for drilling activities are recorded and updated; participate in Quarterly Performance Reviews.
• Perform quality control of the weekly Well Performance Report and ensure NPT tracking aligns with OpenWells reports.
• Prepare cost estimates for drilling activities for scope options identified by the Geoscience Team.
• Review and comment on Drillers’ Instructions.
• Monitor contracts quarterly with the Senior Well Planning Engineer; track contract value, validity, and long‑lead items; coordinate future requirements.
• Conduct rig visits, preferably three to four times per year.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Senior Drilling Engineer, Senior Well Planning Engineer, and Drilling Operations Manager.

Job description

General Responsibilities of the Well Planning Engineer

• Identify and/or prepare all relevant well design and planning requirements in accordance with the company Well Handover Process, prepare and/or review the well proposal and design basis, and technically monitor the execution of the relevant programs.


• Provide engineering input to Well Programs in accordance with the tasks assigned by the Senior Well Planning Engineer.


• Prepare detailed well plans, including casing seat selection, casing strength design, kick tolerance calculations, casing/BOP (Blowout Preventer)/equipment pressure test requirements, drill string design, hydraulics, drilling fluid design, and cementing design; review and approve designs prepared by third-party contractors and provide support to the operations team when required.


• Conduct offset well analysis and prepare well diagrams and schematics and Well Phase Completion Reports; review the Time-Depth and Cost-Depth charts for the well on a daily basis.


• Maintain and archive all well-related documentation, including photographs, records, and contractor reports, in accordance with the applicable process.


• Ensure that Company KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for all drilling activities are recorded and updated; participate in Quarterly Performance Reviews and provide the Performance Lead Engineer with all data required for benchmarking contractor performance.


• Perform quality control of the weekly Well Performance Report prepared by the Drilling Site Engineer and ensure that NPT (Non-Productive Time) tracking is consistent with the actual reporting in OpenWells.


• Prepare cost estimates related to drilling activities for scope definition options identified by the Geoscience Team.


• Review and provide comments on Drillers’ Instructions.


• Monitor the status of contracts quarterly together with the Senior Well Planning Engineer, including expenditure against approved contract value and contract validity periods; monitor the inventory of long-lead items under the contracts and coordinate future requirements/requests to prevent shortages.


• Conduct rig visits, preferably three to four times per year.


• Perform other duties and projects assigned by the Senior Drilling Engineer, Senior Well Planning Engineer, and Drilling Operations Manager within the scope of the position.
