Job summary

Wärtsilä Energy in Istanbul, Türkiye is seeking a Senior Workshop Engineer to join our Workshop Operations team. You will combine hands-on engine expertise with technical leadership to support maintenance, overhaul activities, and continuous improvement in line with Wärtsilä quality standards.

The role requires a degree in mechanical or marine engineering, 3+ years in engine maintenance or workshop operations, and fluency in English. Domestic travel may be required to meet customers worldwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level engineering degree in mechanical or marine fields.
• 3+ years in engine maintenance, overhauls, repairs, or workshop operations.
• Hands-on background as Marine/Service/Workshop Engineer or similar.
• Fluent English, written and spoken.
• Based in Istanbul, preferably near Tuzla.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support workshop operations, ensuring quality, safety and efficient execution of maintenance and overhaul activities.
• Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to workshop technicians and engineers.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including quality and 5S activities, to enhance workshop performance.
• Monitor workshop documentation, reporting, and compliance with Wärtsilä standards and procedures.
• Coordinate tools, equipment, and resources needed to support daily workshop operations.
• Support planning activities and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure smooth workshop execution.
• Act as a technical role model on the shop floor, promoting best practices and a strong safety culture.
• Contribute to the development of repair methods, technical capabilities, and team competence.

We are looking for a Senior Workshop Engineer to join our Workshop Operations team in Istanbul, Türkiye.

In this role, you will combine hands‑on engine expertise with technical leadership, supporting workshop operations, quality, and continuous improvement while helping to develop the capabilities of the team.

Your role and responsibilities

As a Senior Workshop Engineer, you will act as a technical expert and mentor within the workshop, ensuring that maintenance and overhaul activities are performed safely, efficiently, and according to Wärtsilä quality standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Lead and support workshop operations, ensuring quality, safety and efficient execution of maintenance and overhaul activities.
• Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to workshop technicians and engineers.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including quality and 5S activities, to enhance workshop performance.
• Monitor workshop documentation, reporting, and compliance with Wärtsilä standards and procedures.
• Coordinate tools, equipment, and resources needed to support daily workshop operations.
• Support planning activities and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure smooth workshop execution.
• Act as a technical role model on the shop floor, promoting best practices and a strong safety culture.

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience with engine maintenance, overhauls, repairs, or workshop operations.
• Hands‑on background as a Marine Engineer, Service Engineer, Workshop Engineer, or similar.
• Confidence working with precision measuring tools and technical documentation.
• A hands‑on approach to fault finding and technical problem solving.
• Fluent English, written and spoken.
• Based in Istanbul (Anatolian side), preferably near Tuzla.

As an ideal candidate you might also have…

• Knowledge of SAP, CRM, or other digital service tools.
• Experience guiding, coaching, or supporting technical teams.
• Interest in continuous improvement, quality, and workshop development.

In this role, some travel is required to meet with our customers around the world. Thus, we hope you to be ready to travel (approximately 60% time in a year), even though most of the meetings are held virtually.
