Job summary

ColendiBank seeks a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join its Istanbul technology team. You will ensure performance, integrity and security of all database systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to support rapidly scaling digital banking operations.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of enterprise DBA experience, expertise in SQL Server and PostgreSQL, and strong scripting and automation skills.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on DBA experience in enterprise environments.
• Expertise in SQL Server and PostgreSQL with schema design and performance tuning.
• Experience with monitoring tools like SQL Server Profiler, Extended Events, pgBadger, Zabbix.
• Scripting skills in T-SQL, PL/pgSQL, PowerShell, Bash, Python.
• Knowledge of data security, regulatory requirements in the banking sector.
• Fluent English; strong communication abilities.

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to join our growing technology team in Istanbul. Reporting to the IT Infrastructure and Security Senior Manager, this role will be responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of all database systems. The Senior DBA will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build and maintain a robust data infrastructure that supports our rapidly scaling digital banking operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain database systems, primarily Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
• Design and implement efficient database schemas and structures aligned with business requirements.
• Develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and views.
• Participate in database architecture decisions and contribute to strategic planning.
• Support database deployments and schema changes, coordinating with development and DevOps teams.
• Monitor and optimize database performance using profiling and monitoring tools.
• Automate routine administrative tasks through scripting and modern automation tools.
• Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness of database systems.
• Develop and enforce database security policies, access controls, and compliance standards.
• Maintain thorough documentation on database architecture, processes, and procedures.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database issues efficiently while providing on-call support when needed.
• Lead data security initiatives, backup strategies, and disaster recovery planning.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience as a Database Administrator in enterprise environments.
• Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexing, and performance optimization.
• Strong understanding of database design principles, normalization/denormalization, and indexing strategies.
• Proven experience with database monitoring and profiling tools such as SQL Server Profiler, Extended Events, Query Store, pg_stat_statements, pgBadger, and Zabbix.
• Proficiency in database backup and recovery strategies using tools such as pgBackRest, SQL Server Maintenance Plans, native pg_dump/pg_restore, and cloud-native backup solutions (AWS/Azure).
• Strong scripting and automation skills using T‑SQL, PL/pgSQL, PowerShell, Bash, Python, and other relevant tools.
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git, GitLab, GitHub) for managing database scripts and deployment workflows.
• Experience in database migration, particularly from SQL Server to PostgreSQL, including schema conversion, data transformation, and compatibility tuning.
• Knowledge of data security, compliance, and regulatory requirements in the banking sector.
• Excellent analytical thinking, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
• Good command of English, both written and spoken.
• Team player with a collaborative mindset.
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra) and certifications such as Microsoft Certified DBA or AWS Certified Database Specialty are a plus.
