arabam.com is seeking a skilled Database Engineer to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of production databases (MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and to optimize schema design, indexing, and queries.

You will automate operational tasks with PowerShell, Bash, or Python, collaborate with development and DevOps teams on deployments and CI/CD, and maintain backup, restore and disaster recovery plans while upholding security and documentation.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in database engineering, administration, or backend/DevOps with a data focus.
• Strong knowledge of MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and high-availability setups.
• Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python).

What You'll Do

• Ensure the high availability, reliability, and performance of our production database systems (MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL and other data platforms),


• Optimize queries, indexing strategies, and schema design to proactively prevent performance issues,


• Automate operational tasks and database workflows using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python,


• Use modern development tools, including AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot), to improve productivity in scripting and SQL development, while maintaining full ownership of reliability and security decisions,


• Manage database backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies,


• Collaborate closely with development and DevOps teams on deployments, schema changes, and CI/CD processes,


• Monitor and optimize database performance using tools such as SQL Profiler, Grafana, Prometheus, and Zabbix,


• Enforce security policies and ensure compliance with relevant data protection and regulatory standards,


• Maintain comprehensive documentation of database architecture, procedures, and policies,


• Participate in on-call rotations and provide after-hours support for critical systems and planned maintenance.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience,


• 4+ years of experience in database engineering, database administration, or a data-focused backend/DevOps role,


• Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including high‑availability setups (Always On, etc.),


• A growth mindset, with interest in evolving toward a Data Platform Engineer role and contributing to scalable, multi‑database architectures,


• Strong automation and scripting mindset, comfortable working in Linux and/or Windows environments,


• Familiarity with NoSQL or analytical systems (e.g., MongoDB, Elasticsearch, ClickHouse) is a plus,


• Strong understanding of normalization/denormalization, indexing strategies, and relational database design principles,


• Experience with database security, role‑based access control, and encryption best practices,


• Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting ability, and communication skills.
