Job summary

Genesis HealthCare System is seeking an Emergency Department Nurse Supervisor to lead daily operations in the 24/7 ED, ensuring safe, efficient, high-quality care. You will supervise nursing staff across shifts, coordinate with departments, and support the Nurse Manager in strategic initiatives.

The role requires BSN or equivalent, Ohio RN licensure, and 3+ years in clinical nursing with strong leadership and communication skills; ACLS/PALS within 12 months is expected.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited nursing program and Ohio RN licensure.
• BSN or equivalent experience required.
• At least 3 years of clinical nursing experience.
• Current CPR certification or eligibility within 30 days.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with staff, physicians, administration.
• Strong strategic and critical thinking for teamwork and change.
• Ability to communicate and explain complex information.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, set priorities.
• Attention to detail with ability to manage multiple projects.
• Clear written and oral communication; explain care plans.
• Ability to read, calculate and prepare medications.
• Self-motivated with ability to complete tasks independently.
• Competence in age-specific patient care.
• PALS, TNCC, ACLS, BCRA, ENPC within 12 months if available.

Responsibilities

• Supervise nursing activities during assigned shifts and liaise for staff and providers.
• Manage staffing, breaks, and coverage based on patient acuity.
• Monitor ED throughput metrics and initiate surge protocols as needed.
• Forecast bed needs and coordinate with inpatient units and hospitalists.
• Provide direct patient care during high-acuity or surge situations.
• Coach and mentor nursing staff in collaboration with ED educator and manager.
• Assist with onboarding, orientation, and competency validation.
• Ensure compliance with ACHC, CMS, ODH, EMTALA and hospital policies.
• Track and improve key indicators such as falls, med safety, infection prevention.
• Identify issues, monitor performance, and drive quality improvements.
• Round on patients and families to address concerns and improve satisfaction.
• Collaborate with lab, imaging, and inpatient units to expedite care.
• Optimize staffing and scheduling; input into self-scheduling and incentives.
• Steward supplies and equipment; initiate work orders and follow-up.
• Contribute to policy development and process improvements.
• Model service excellence and focus on the patient as the primary customer.
• Recruitment, selection, and retention of staff; reduce turnover.
• Delegate with clear expectations and follow-up.
• Float between campuses as needed.
