Job summary

bitaksi in Istanbul is seeking a Legal Counsel to protect and grow our leading taxi-hailing platform. You will support cross-functional teams on contracts, data privacy, and regulatory matters across all verticals.

The role requires a law degree, 2+ years PQE, English fluency, and in-house experience. You will draft and negotiate complex agreements, ensure KVKK/GDPR compliance, and provide strategic legal guidance to product and marketing teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) required.
• Master’s degree (LL.M.) in IT and Technology Law is highly preferred.
• Minimum 2+ years of PQE in a legal role.
• In-house experience and strong cross-functional reporting valued.
• Proven experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
• Experience in technology, e-commerce, FMCG, or fintech sectors is desirable.
• Strong KVKK/GDPR knowledge; compliance frameworks and data privacy.
• IAPP certification is desirable.
• Excellent written and spoken English; strong communications.
• Solid understanding of corporate, commercial and contract processes.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive legal support across bitaksi units, including contracts and data privacy.
• Draft, review, and negotiate NDAs, software/IP licensing, financing, and advertising agreements.
• Advise on corporate governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
• Conduct legal research, draft reports and opinions for business teams.
• Provide strategic input on new business models, product launches, and operations.
• Stay updated on e-commerce and technology regulations affecting the business.
• Deliver training and guidance on legal best practices and compliance procedures.
• Litigation support: respond to authorities and manage lawsuits when required.
• KVKK data privacy governance, VERBİS records and related obligations.

Key Qualifications

To join us as a Legal Counsel, you’ll need:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) required.
• A Master's degree (LL.M.) in IT and Technology Law is highly preferred.
• Minimum 2+ years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE).
• Prior experience working within an in-house legal department and a strong understanding of in-house team dynamics are highly valued.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, take initiative within the legal department, and maintain clear communication and effective reporting with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Proven experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
• Experience within the technology, e-commerce, fast-paced consumer goods (FMCG), or fintech sectors is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of KVKK / GDPR, compliance frameworks, mediation, and litigation management.
• IAPP certification is highly desirable and will be considered a strong asset.
• Excellent command of official, judicial, and administrative correspondence.
• Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required.
• Strong understanding of legal issues, risks, and mitigations pertinent to commercial
• contract processes.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will provide comprehensive legal support across all bitaksi business units, ranging from contract management and regulatory relations to end-to-end data privacy compliance:

Contract & Operational Law Management

• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements, including but not limited to NDAs, Software/IP Licensing Agreements, Financing Agreements, and Advertising/Marketing Agreements (including promotions/sweepstakes) for all vertical businesses of bitaksi.
• Providing expert legal advice on corporate law, commercial law, e-commerce, consumer protection, and data privacy matters.
• Advising on corporate governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
• Conducting thorough legal research, drafting reports, and preparing legal opinions to support business and product teams.
• Providing strategic legal input on new business models, product launches, and operational decisions.
• Staying up-to-date with legal and regulatory changes affecting the e-commerce and technology industries.
• Delivering training and guidance to internal teams on legal best practices and compliance procedures.

Litigation & Public Authority Relations

• Responding to all types of information and documentation requests from public authorities, including prosecutors, law enforcement, courts, and ministries.
• Managing and tracking lawsuits to which the company is a party, drafting petitions, responding to court orders, and handling interlocutory decisions.
• Collaborating with external legal advisors and regulatory bodies when necessary.

KVKK & Data Privacy Governance

• Analyzing all personal data processing activities of the company within the scope of KVKK (Turkish Data Protection Law) and related legislation.
• Regularly maintaining and updating the company's data protection and personal data inventories, and actively tracking, auditing, and updating VERBİS (Data Controllers Registry) records from a legal perspective.
• Executing, updating, and auditing the Data Inventory and VERBİS (Data Controllers Registry) records from a legal perspective.
• Ensuring full KVKK compliance across all commercial contracts (data processing agreements, cross-border data transfer agreements, etc.).
• Managing the legal process in case of personal data breaches (including notifications, internal reporting, and correspondence with the Personal Data Protection Board/KVKK).
• Structuring domestic and international data transfer processes from a legal standpoint.
• Providing KVKK compliance opinions for new projects (product development, software, marketing, HR, fintech, etc.).
• Evaluating data subject access requests from a legal perspective, preparing responses, drafting defenses against complaints submitted to the Board, and establishing/auditing internal mechanisms for data subject requests.
