Carbon Health Technologies Inc is seeking a Lead Platform Engineer to steer the technical direction of its core platform and foundational services. This hands-on leadership role involves setting architectural direction, ensuring reliability and scalability, and coding alongside the team.

Work in a JVM-based microservices environment on AWS within a healthcare setting, focusing on availability, data integrity, and security that impact patient care.

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing, building, and operating backend/distributed systems in production.
• 2+ years in a technical leadership role.
• Strong experience with microservice architectures on AWS.
• Proficiency in a strongly typed JVM language (Kotlin/Scala/Java).
• Hands-on experience with gRPC and contract design, timeouts, retries, and failure handling.

Responsibilities

• Lead architectural direction for highly available, scalable backend systems.
• Define inter-service communication with gRPC contracts and strategies.
• Design event-driven workflows with idempotent consumers and transactional outbox patterns.
• Own infrastructure as code using Terraform; ensure reproducible environments.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines for rapid, safe production changes.
• Establish service-level objectives and observability across services.
