Job summary

Personify Health, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and run the backend services behind our digital health platform that serves millions of members in many languages and across many regions.

Responsibilities

• Ship production code: deliver production-ready code in Java and Kotlin for new features, APIs, and data integrations.
• Design for scale: build backend services for high availability, low latency, and scalability.
• Monitor and optimize performance of existing code and services.
• Provide technical leadership to junior engineers and coach them to improve software quality.
• Improve development processes and codebase within the team.
• Own services and respond to on-call shifts when needed.
• Collaborate with product managers to shape scalable, secure products.

Responsibilities

Why This Role Matters

Our digital health platform supports millions of active members in 20 languages across 190 countries, and it serves more than 50 billion API calls a year. As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll design and run the backend services behind it, from new customer-facing features and APIs to data integrations with customers and partners.

When those services stay fast and available, members get the tools they need to manage their health. You’ll also raise the bar for the engineers around you.

• Ship production code: Deliver production-ready code in Java and Kotlin for new features, APIs, and customer and partner data integrations.
• Design for scale: Design, develop, and deploy backend services built for high availability, low latency, and scalability.
• Tune and monitor: Monitor, test, and continuously optimize your designs, including existing code that needs to perform better.
• Coach engineers: Provide technical leadership and coaching to junior team members so they build better software.
• Improve how we build: Master our development process and code base, then identify and implement improvements within your team.
• Own your services: Take operational responsibility for the services your team owns, which may include off-hours calls with the systems support team.
• Shape the product: Work with product managers to refine the product, and champion design strategies for scalability, maintainability, performance, security, and usability.
• Secure the code: Maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the application, and verify that code is free of bugs and security vulnerabilities (OWASP/CWE).

Qualifications

What You Bring to Our Team

Education & Experience

• 4+ years of experience developing services and APIs
• Production experience in Java, .Net, or Kotlin
• Working knowledge of software development best practices, including testing, monitoring, and design
• Plus: Experience with highly scalable systems in an AWS ecosystem

Technical Skills

• Fluency in Java and/or .Net
• Plus: Spring Boot, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, and/or Elasticsearch
• Plus: CI/CD technologies such as Maven, TeamCity, Ansible, Harness, Terraform, or similar
• Plus: Familiarity with Angular and the AWS ecosystem
• Industry-standard secure coding practices (OWASP/CWE)
