Job summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer – Windows Server Operations to maintain and optimize Windows Server environments, ensuring secure, reliable IT service delivery. The role requires strong server administration, AD/identity management, monitoring, patching, and security discipline.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration and enterprise infrastructure operations.
• Practical understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Windows authentication.
• Knowledge of server monitoring, performance troubleshooting, patch management, and system maintenance.
• Understanding of backup solutions, restoration procedures, and disaster recovery principles.
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Microsoft Hyper‑V.
• Basic to intermediate PowerShell scripting skills for automation and administration.
• Understanding of TCP/IP networking, IP addressing, routing fundamentals, firewalls, and network troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of server security, access controls, vulnerability remediation, and system hardening.
• Familiarity with IT service management processes, including incident, problem, and change management.
• Ability to document technical procedures and communicate complex issues clearly.
• Strong analytical, organizational, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.
• Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft Windows Server or hybrid infrastructure certifications, Microsoft Azure administration certifications, VMware certifications, or ITIL Foundation, are advantageous but not mandatory unless specified by the hiring team.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and administer Windows Server environments, including supported Windows Server versions.
• Manage server resources, system configurations, services, storage, and operating system settings.
• Monitor server health, availability, performance, and resource utilization to ensure optimal operation.
• Perform routine server maintenance, configuration updates, and operational checks.
• Maintain accurate server inventories, configuration records, and infrastructure documentation.
• Administer Active Directory Domain Services, organizational units, group policies, users, groups, and computer accounts.
• Support Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and implement configuration standards across server environments.
• Assist with DNS, DHCP, domain controller health, authentication, and directory replication troubleshooting.
• Support identity and access management processes in accordance with organizational security policies.
• Review administrative privileges and assist with access reviews and least-privilege implementation.
• Monitor infrastructure systems using appropriate monitoring and alerting tools.
• Investigate CPU, memory, disk, network, service, and application-related performance issues.
• Analyze system logs, event logs, alerts, and performance metrics to identify potential problems.
• Implement corrective actions to reduce recurring incidents and improve system stability.
• Recommend infrastructure improvements based on performance trends and operational requirements.
• Plan and execute operating system patching, security updates, and approved configuration changes.
• Coordinate maintenance windows, communicate planned outages, and validate systems after updates.
• Apply server hardening standards and support vulnerability remediation activities.
