Job summary

Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple is seeking an Assistant Cook / Chef to support the vegetarian kitchen's daily operations. You will assist in food preparation, uphold quality and hygiene standards, and help run kitchen activities in line with safety regulations.

The role requires prior kitchen experience, willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends/public holidays, and a Basic Food Hygiene certificate (WSQ Level 1) or readiness to obtain it after employment. Training will be provided.

Qualifications

• N-Level, O-Level or ITE qualification or equivalent.
• Experience in a commercial kitchen, preferably preparing vegetarian cuisine.
• Possess a valid Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (WSQ Food Safety Course Level 1) or be willing to obtain it upon employment.
• Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food handling practices.
• Passion for preparing vegetarian cuisine and willingness to learn temple cooking practices.
• Able to work independently as well as in a team.
• Able to carry out kitchen operational requirements, including standing and manual tasks.
• Able to work rotating shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Cook in the daily operation and administration of the vegetarian kitchen.
• Prepare and cook vegetarian meals according to established recipes and standards.
• Ensure the quality, quantity and presentation of food served.
• Assist in monitoring the use of ingredients and minimise food wastage.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, equipment and preparation areas.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, workplace safety and hygiene regulations.
• Assist in receiving, checking and storing food supplies.
• Support temple events and catering requirements as needed.
• Undertake any other duties as assigned by temple management.
