National Healthcare Group is seeking a Surveillance Coordinator to join the Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) Surveillance team at NCID. You will conduct systematic HAI surveillance across Singaporean healthcare institutions, collect and manage data, and collaborate with clinicians to improve care delivery by reducing HAI rates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, or related field. 1–2 years of experience in healthcare surveillance work would be advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with strong Excel capabilities for data management and analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Meticulous data collection, entry, and quality assurance with strong analytical skills.
  • Strong organisational abilities to manage multiple surveillance activities and meet deadlines.
  • Quick learner with ability to understand and apply complex clinical and surveillance guidelines.

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

The coordinator will be part of the Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) Surveillance team at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID). The coordinator will work with the team to conduct thorough and systematic surveillance of infectious disease prevention and control among healthcare institutions with feedback mechanisms to promote improvement of care delivery through reduction of HAI in Singapore.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Surveillance and Data Management
  • Conduct comprehensive HAI surveillance, including antimicrobial utilisation surveillance, across public healthcare institutions (acute and community hospitals) and long-term care facilities in Singapore.
  • Review case notes and collect clinical and epidemiological data for entry into surveillance databases.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to clarify documentation queries and ensure data integrity.
  • Prepare clean and accurate datasets for analysis while ensuring data obtained adheres to standardized case definitions and surveillance protocols.
  • Perform rigorous quality checks to identify and rectify errors in datasets.
  • Support data analysts, biostatisticians, and epidemiologists in data access, extraction, and preparation for analysis.
  • Ensure consistency and standardisation of data collection methodologies across all surveillance activities.
Quality Assurance and Standardisation
  • Maintain comprehensive standardisation logs to ensure harmonised data collection methods and terminology to enable reliable inter-facility comparisons.
  • Develop and implement standardised logical models, algorithms, and data dictionaries to be consistently applied across all participating hospitals.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to established surveillance protocols and quality standards.
Coordination and Audit Management
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate surveillance audits across participating healthcare institutions.
  • Manage internal and external communications with stakeholders to ensure seamless execution of surveillance processes.
  • Collaborate with healthcare partners to optimise data collection workflows and address operational challenges.
Research and Knowledge Translation
  • Contribute to research projects in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Participate in manuscript preparation and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on surveillance findings and outcomes.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions with team members on data quality issues, workflow improvements, and best practices.
  • Respond to emerging infectious disease threats and pathogens of pandemic potential as required.
  • Undertake other ad hoc responsibilities related to HAI surveillance and infection prevention research.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, or related field. 1 – 2 years of experience in healthcare surveillance work would be advantageous.

  • Attention to Detail – Meticulous approach to data collection, entry, and quality assurance with strong analytical skills to identify inconsistencies and errors in datasets. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining high standards of data accuracy and integrity.
  • Sustained Focus – Maintain consistent focus during extensive case note reviews, methodically cross-referencing multiple data sources, and systematically verify information accuracy.
  • Organisational Skills – Strong organisational abilities to manage multiple surveillance activities simultaneously with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Maintains a systematic approach to documentation and record-keeping.
