Overview
Sr. Data Scientist, SMAI — Micron Technology. Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all. Micron Technology is a world leader in memory and storage solutions, accelerating the transformation of information into intelligence. We pursue innovation with integrity, sustainability, and community support.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- Work with an international team of data scientists, data engineers, software engineers, process and equipment engineers, process integration engineers, yield‑enhancement engineers, and R&D in a collaborative manner to develop new data science solutions that improve quality, improve yield, reduce deviations, shorten manufacturing cycle time, reduce cost, and extend manufacturing capabilities.
- Draw from a broad background of techniques in mathematics, statistics, information technology, machine learning, data engineering, and visualization to discover insightful patterns in data.
- Work on projects and develop high‑impact solutions in semiconductor manufacturing, taking ownership of the full pipeline from data acquisition through building and deploying machine learning models to visualization and user delivery.
- Collaborate within an international team of data scientists, data engineers, software engineers, process and equipment engineers, process integration engineers, yield enhancement engineers, and R&D.
- Explore and drive value from new data from new sensors or data becoming available in collaboration with suppliers or other business partners.
Required qualifications
- B.S./M.S. degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering or another engineering discipline; PhD in related disciplines is a plus.
- At least 3 years of experience in data science in engineering or related industry with in‑depth knowledge in statistical modeling, machine learning, and deep learning. Strong skills in Python and familiarity with at least one machine learning framework (e.g., PyTorch, scikit‑learn).
- Ability to extract data from different databases via SQL and other query languages; experience with data cleansing, outlier detection, and handling missing data. Experience with Google Cloud Platform or other big data platforms is a plus.
- Ability to quickly build prototype solutions based on business requirements and deploy data science solutions into production environments.
- Excellent communication skills for explaining models, assumptions, and results to non‑technical stakeholders; ability to work independently with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactive problem‑solving approach and ownership mindset.
- Interest in semiconductor manufacturing and handling large data volumes (terabytes to petabytes) to solve memory wafer related problems; comfortable working in a diverse environment.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Generative AI solutions including RAG, LLM tuning, and agentic problem solving. Solid experience with root cause analysis (RCA) related algorithms is a plus.
- Full stack skills to build end‑to‑end data science applications with scalability and robustness are preferred.
- Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), or knowledge of wafer process and yield analysis is a plus.
- Existing papers from conferences such as CVPR, NIPS, ICML, KDD are a plus, but this is not a dedicated research position.
