In this role you will report to the Smart Manufacturing and Artificial Intelligence organization. The team defines, develops, and delivers end‑to‑end smart manufacturing solutions integrated across business functions, applying industry‑leading automation, AI, and machine learning methodologies to enhance Micron’s product development, business, and administrative processes.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- Collaborate with an international team of data scientists, data engineers, software engineers, process & equipment engineers, process integration engineers, yield enhancement engineers, and R&D to develop new data science solutions that improve quality, yield, reduce deviations, improve manufacturing cycle time, reduce cost, and extend manufacturing capabilities.
- Use broad techniques in mathematics, statistics, IT, machine learning, data engineering, and visualization to discover insightful patterns in data.
- Take full ownership of pipelines from data acquisition, model building and deployment, to visualization and user delivery in semiconductor manufacturing projects.
- Explore and drive value from new data sources, sensors, and collaborations with suppliers or other business partners.
Qualifications
- B.S./M.S. in Data Science, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering discipline (Ph.D. a plus).
- At least 3 years of experience in data science within engineering or a related industry, with in-depth knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning, and deep learning.
- Strong Python skills and familiarity with at least one machine‑learning framework (e.g., PyTorch, scikit‑learn).
- Ability to extract and cleanse data from multiple databases via SQL and related query languages.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform or other big‑data platforms is a plus.
- Capability to prototype solutions quickly and to deploy data‑science models into production environments.
- Excellent communication skills for explaining models, assumptions, and results to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Proactive problem‑solving mindset and ownership mentality.
- Interest in learning semiconductor manufacturing and working with terabytes and petabytes of data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Generative AI solutions, including Retrieval‑Augmented Generation, LLM tuning, and agentic problem solving.
- Solid experience with root‑cause analysis algorithms and modeling for complex industrial problems.
- Full stack skills to build end‑to‑end data‑science applications with scalability and robustness.
- Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or knowledge of wafer process and yield analysis.
- Scholarly publications from CVPR, NIPS, ICML, KDD, or similar conferences (not a requirement).
