Role Purpose (Why do we need this role?)

The Skills Bridge Specialist - Environmental Data Compliance, Systems and Automation is responsible for designing, implementing and embedding a financial quality, policy compliant environmental data management system for Swire Shipping (and, to a lesser extent, Swire Bulk).

The role will address a critical capability gap by translating Group Sustainable Development Data Policy requirements into practical, auditable processes and fit‑for‑purpose solutions that can operate effectively within a constrained and evolving environment, including varying system maturity, manual data dependencies, and limited digital infrastructure across offices, vessels and logistics operations. .

The role has direct accountability for establishing the environmental data governance with clear ownership for data quality, auditability, and the identification and implementation of data tools and automation solutions. A key expectation is the ability to deliver scalable, workable solutions that improve data quality and controls despite operational and system constraints, rather than relying on ideal‑state system availability. It goes beyond analysis and design and includes delivery of agreed tooling and system improvements to reduce manual effort and strengthen controls.

The role covers environmental data including Scope 1, Scope 2, Scope 3, and waste and water, recognising the very different levels of system maturity and manual data collection across the organisation.

Role Accountabilities (What is this role responsible for delivering?)

Environmental data governance and compliance

• Translate Group Sustainable Development Data SOPs and related governance requirements into a practical operating model for Swire Shipping and Swire Bulk.
• Define end‑to‑end environmental data processes, including data definitions, boundaries, methodologies, assumptions, controls, evidence requirements and documentation.
• Establish and document clear roles and responsibilities across data owners, contributors, reviewers and approvers at office, vessel and functional level.
• Develop and maintain auditable basis of preparation and methodologies suitable for internal review and external assurance.

Process design and implementation

• Map existing environmental data flows across offices, vessels and logistics, identifying gaps, risks, duplication and manual dependencies.
• Develop pragmatic, fit‑for‑purpose solutions that standardise processes while accommodating varying levels of system capability and data availability.
• Design standardised, repeatable data collection and control processes that reflect differing data realities, including both system‑based and manual data sources for current and future organisational and operational boundaries.
• Implement these processes across regions and functions, working closely with local offices, fleet teams and central functions.
• Introduce practical controls and workarounds where system automation is not immediately feasible, ensuring auditability and data integrity in constrained environments.
• Identify data owners to provide information directly to Resource Advisor platform.

Systems, tools and automation

• Own the identification, evaluation and prioritisation of data tools and automation opportunities for environmental data across offices, vessels and logistics.
• Assess existing systems used for all data stream reporting, identifying limitations, manual workarounds and control weaknesses.
• Prioritise solutions that deliver immediate value, reduce risk, and are implementable within existing system and resource constraints. Define functional and control requirements for data tools and automation in collaboration with Sustainability, Finance, Procurement, IT and Digital, Operations, Fleet, HR and Crewing teams.
• Develop costed and sequenced proposals for data tools and automation solutions, including business cases, implementation phasing and dependency mapping (balancing long‑term system improvements with short‑term pragmatic solutions where needed.
• Lead or directly support the implementation and integration of approved tools and automation solutions, ensuring alignment with Group data policy, auditability requirements and reporting timelines.
• Ensure that implemented tools materially reduce manual handling, improve data quality and strengthen traceability and audit trails, even where full automation is not achievable.
• Embed tool usage into standard operating procedures, guidance and training to ensure sustainability beyond the Skills Bridge period.

Scope 3 Data Readiness and Delivery

• Design and implement a Scope 3 data framework that supports a progressive combination of spend‑based and activity‑based data.
• Assist with consolidation of all the data inputs from procurement, travel, crewing, logistics and other relevant functions, creating tools or solutions to automate this data.
• Ensure completeness of the process for Scope 3 categories data for emissions calculations by third‑party in accordance with the Group requirements and reporting timelines.
• Support the calculation of business travel emissions for shore‑based staff and seafarers and associated offsetting processes in line with Group policy.
• Act as the central point for mapping of environmental data streams and implementation of the operating model across Sustainability, Finance, Procurement, IT and Digital, Operations, Fleet, HR and Crewing.
• Align stakeholders on data ownership, timing, escalation and accountability.
• Resolve data quality, completeness and timeliness issues through structured engagement and clear governance.

Training and capability building

• Develop and deliver training, guidance and practical instructions for data owners and contributors across offices and functions for reporting via identified platforms
• Support structured knowledge and skills transfer so that environmental data management capability remains embedded beyond the Skills Bridge period.
• Promote consistent understanding of data requirements, controls and audit expectations across the organization.

Reporting and assurance support

• Support internal and external reporting cycles by ensuring data completeness, consistency and traceability.
• Prepare the organisation for audit and assurance by maintaining documentation, evidence and control narratives.
• Provide clear and defensible explanations of methodologies, assumptions and limitations to reviewers and senior stakeholders in the form of SOP
• Documented and implemented environmental data governance framework for Swire Shipping and Swire Bulk with clearly defined roles, responsibilities, escalation routes and reporting timelines fully aligned with the Group Sustainable Development Data SOP.
• Auditable end‑to‑end processes and control frameworks established for Scope 1, Scope 2, Scope 3, and waste and water data, ensuring data quality, traceability and defensibility across both system‑based and manual data environments.
• Pragmatic data tools and automation solutions implemented, where identified and approved, delivering measurable improvements in data quality, efficiency, and control maturity, while accommodating existing system and resource constraints. Standardised data collection tools, templates and workflows introduced to reduce manual effort and improve consistency, particularly in areas with limited system capability.
• Comprehensive training materials, SOPs and user guidance developed and embedded, with clear evidence of capability transfer and sustained adoption across internal teams. Demonstrable reduction in manual data handling, improved data completeness, and strengthened audit readiness, supported by clear documentation, evidence trails and control narratives.

Key Qualifications & Skills (What knowledge will ensure success in the role?)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental science, Data Analytics, Engineering or related field (Master’s or Data certifications will be an added advantage)
• 5–10 years’ experience in environmental/ESG data management, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon accounting

Technical Skills

• Strong experience in sustainability and environmental data management, covering Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 aligned with the GHG protocol.
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing auditable data processes, controls and documentation.
• Practical experience designing and implementing digital or semi-digital data solutions, including working within constraints of legacy systems or limited infrastructure.
• Understanding of sustainability reporting, governance and assurance requirements.
• Proven ability to work across multiple functions and geographies and to deliver through influence rather than direct authority.

Professional Skills

• Environmental data & ESG expertise – strong knowledge of carbon accounting (Scope 1–3), sustainability data standards, and reporting requirements, combined with ability to ensure data quality, accuracy, and completeness.
