Job summary

Boys' Town, a Singapore-based non-profit social service agency, seeks an Executive to facilitate adventure-based programs, support programme development, and supervise staff. The role involves planning, research, and safe operation of activities such as hiking, swimming, and rock climbing, with occasional local and overseas expeditions.

The successful candidate will hold a Diploma or higher, have at least 3 years of related experience, and possess first aid certification.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience.
  • Diploma holder with good communications skills (spoken and written).
  • SNCS level 1/2 or higher; SNAS level 1/2 or higher; SCF 1-star/2-star; valid first aid certification.
  • Able to conduct basic research and programme evaluation.
  • Passion for active sports or outdoor adventure.
  • Has passion to work with at risk youths.
  • Facilitation experience in ice breakers, team-building and problem-based activities.
  • Supervisory experience preferred (operationally and clinically).
  • Able to run activities such as running, hiking, swimming.
  • Able to perform physical tasks: abseiling, rock climbing, sport climbing.
  • May lead local/overseas expeditions involving trekking, climbing, paddling.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate adventure-based programs for a wide range of clients.

  • Collaborate with instructional staff to ensure smooth program operation.

  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of BTAC stores and activity areas.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development in adventure learning and client support.

Founded in 1948 by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, Boys' Town began as a residential home for boys affected by the war and has since expanded to provide a continuum of services for children and youth in need.

Today, Boys' Town serves both boys and girls, from infants to young adults, many from disadvantaged or disengaged families who have experienced challenges such as neglect, abandonment, or abuse. Job Description

1. FUNCTIONAL

  • Facilitate various adventure-based programs, workshops and related services for a wide range of clients.
  • Assist Manager in planning, designing, and organizing adventure-based programmes and training materials including research and evaluation.
  • Assist Manager in programme development and improvement to uphold quality and relevance of BTAC programmes.
  • Assist Manager in developing and reviewing BTAC SOPs where necessary to ensure relevance and robustness of BTAC Operation and Safety procedures.
  • Work in collaboration and support with other BTAC instructional staff team to ensure smooth running of programme, providing technical support in a range of adventure-based activities which require additional instructional staff, as well as providing any necessary resource support for the programme.
  • Provide supervision and training for younger staff and/or interns.
  • Ensure equipment functionality and maintenance for the purpose of providing safety for clients.
  • To ensure that all equipment and/or structure certifications and usage logs are up to date in accordance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Responsible in overseeing the overall cleanliness and proper housekeeping of BTAC stores, structure, and activity area.
  • Engage in on-going professional development to increase technical knowledge and soft skills in the area of adventure learning and supporting client behaviour.
  • Work evenings and weekends when required to resource the programme and meet demands of the job.
  • Play a variety of roles to clients which includes instructor, facilitator, coach, and mentor.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the work of BTAC by maintaining professionalism in the area of staff, facilitation, programme development and resources utilization.
  • To provide support in some sales and marketing of the BTAC programmes when called upon or when assigned projects of such nature.

2. ORGANIZATIONAL

  • To participate actively in all fundraising activities as well as any other commitments that Boys' Town undertakes.
  • To work in close collaboration with other staff, department and components of Boys' Town.
  • The Executive Director and or his/her representative may assign you any other duties that are within reason for the benefit of the clients and/or Boys' Town.

  • Able to perform physical task such as abseiling, natural rock climbing and sport climbing.
  • May be required to lead local and overseas expeditions which may involve trekking, climbing or paddling for long distances.
