Job summary

ScaleUp Bio in Singapore is seeking a Senior MSAT Downstream Process Engineer to lead transfer, scale-up, optimisation and execution of downstream operations in GMP environments for bioprocess manufacturing.

You will apply deep hands-on knowledge of centrifugation, filtration, chromatography, drying and purification to support process transfers from lab to pilot and commercial facilities, collaborating with Process Engineering, Production, QA and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering or related field.
• Typically 10–20 years of relevant industrial experience in downstream process development, MSAT, process engineering, technology transfer or biomanufacturing.
• Substantial experience in the pharmaceutical, enzyme, industrial fermentation or biopharmaceutical industries.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of fermentation-derived product recovery and purification.
• Experience scaling downstream processes from lab/pilot to commercial manufacturing in GMP environments.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex process failures and improve product yield and consistency.
• Experience preparing or reviewing batch records, SOPs, risk assessments, deviation investigations and technical reports.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with customers and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical transfer of customer downstream processes into ScaleUp Bio’s facilities.
• Assess customer process packages, identify gaps and translate lab protocols into manufacturing processes.
• Develop process flow diagrams, mass balances, operating parameters and scale-up strategies.
• Evaluate scalability, facility fit and equipment capability; manage risks before manufacturing.
• Design and execute engineering, verification, demonstration and manufacturing runs.
• Support downstream scale-up across pilot and industrial production volumes.
• Provide technical leadership for downstream unit operations (centrifugation, filtration, chromatography, drying).
• Ensure GMP, food-safety, biosafety and quality requirements are met.
