Job summary

Rhino Partners is seeking a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to own a portfolio of critical applications across modern and legacy stacks in Singapore. You will write, review and ship code, lead migrations and modernisation, and maintain production systems while guiding a small delivery team.

You’ll work with engineers, product teams and stakeholders to keep systems stable, secure and maintainable during migrations and retirements. Strong background in React, AWS and PostgreSQL is essential.

We’re looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to support a portfolio of digital products used across Singapore’s education ecosystem.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering role where you’ll take technical ownership of multiple applications spanning modern and legacy technology stacks. You’ll write, review and ship code, lead migrations and modernisation efforts, maintain production systems, and help set the engineering direction for a small delivery team.

The portfolio includes a large-scale, identity-aware data collection platform processing more than 4 million submissions annually across 43,000+ staff and 400,000+ students, alongside several other school and administrative applications.

You’ll work closely with engineers, product teams and stakeholders to keep these systems stable, secure and maintainable while supporting their migration, transfer or eventual retirement.

What You’ll Be Doing

Full Stack Engineering & Technical Ownership

• Take technical ownership of a portfolio of production applications spanning multiple languages, frameworks and codebases.
• Design, develop, review and ship changes across frontend, backend, database and infrastructure layers.
• Work extensively with React, JavaScript/TypeScript, backend APIs and PostgreSQL.
• Navigate, troubleshoot and improve both modern and legacy systems.
• Make pragmatic architecture and engineering decisions based on reliability, maintainability and delivery requirements.

Application Maintenance & Production Support

• Maintain the stability, security and performance of business-critical applications.
• Deliver bug fixes, security patches, infrastructure updates and application enhancements.
• Provide L2/L3 production support and investigate complex application and infrastructure issues.
• Analyse logs, metrics and traces using tools including AWS CloudWatch, ECS and OpenTelemetry.
• Maintain effective monitoring and operational practices across the portfolio.

Migration & Modernisation

• Lead the migration of applications from legacy implementations to modernised platforms and architectures.
• Plan and execute the retirement of legacy codebases once migrations are successfully completed.
• Assess technical dependencies and determine appropriate migration, transfer or sunset approaches for applications.
• Coordinate technical changes across teams while minimising disruption to existing users.

Engineering Standards & Mentorship

• Define and uphold engineering standards covering code quality, testing, code reviews and releases.
• Establish effective quality gates and development practices using Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Review code and provide technical guidance to other engineers through pairing and mentorship.
• Promote maintainable, secure and well-tested software engineering practices.

Cloud, DevOps & Operations

• Work with cloud-hosted applications and containerised deployments using Docker.
• Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
• Troubleshoot applications and services running within AWS environments, including ECS.
• Ensure systems remain observable, supportable and operationally resilient.

Documentation & Stakeholder Coordination

• Maintain architecture documentation, operational runbooks and technical handover materials.
• Work closely with engineers, product teams and stakeholders to align technical priorities and delivery plans.
• Communicate technical risks, dependencies and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Support effective knowledge transfer as systems are migrated, transferred or retired.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years of hands-on full stack software engineering experience, including experience operating at Senior or Lead Engineer level.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and React.
• Strong experience designing and developing backend APIs and services.
• Strong experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
• Demonstrated ability to understand, debug and modify unfamiliar systems across multiple languages and codebases.
• Strong software architecture fundamentals and the ability to make sound technical trade-offs.
• Experience maintaining and modernising legacy applications.
• Solid experience with AWS, cloud-hosted applications and containerised deployments.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with observability and troubleshooting using CloudWatch, ECS, OpenTelemetry or similar tooling.
• Strong Git, code review and software quality practices.
• Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile product delivery.
• Strong awareness of secure software development practices and enterprise security requirements.
• Experience coordinating engineering work across teams and mentoring less experienced engineers.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience delivering software within Singapore Government or public-sector environments.
• Experience maintaining portfolios containing both modern and legacy applications.
• Experience leading application migrations, modernisation or decommissioning initiatives.
• Familiarity with government security, compliance and operational requirements.
