Job summary

Singtel, a leading telco, is seeking an Engineering Officer/Technician to support fault clearance, installation, and commissioning of access and transmission equipment. The role involves active fault troubleshooting, 24x7 standby duty, and collaboration with INOC and planners to ensure reliable network services.

Ideal candidates have telecom engineering knowledge, fiber testing experience, and strong analytical skills, with flexibility for off-hours work and a team-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• O Level /A Level or ITE in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum three years' experience as Engineering Officer (Technician) or equivalent.
• Knowledge of telecommunications engineering and transmission systems.
• Experience with fiber patching, testing and fault isolation using OTDR and related tools.
• Good interpersonal and communications skills and teamwork.
• Willingness to work non-office hours and standby on a 24x7 basis.
• Strong analytical troubleshooting skills in telecom fault isolation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with INOC for fault clearance and service restoration to meet SLA.
• Troubleshoot faults in access and transmission equipment; escalate as needed.
• Lead site surveys, installation, testing, and commissioning of telecom equipment.
• Monitor health and performance of access/transmission equipment and take remedial action.
• Support re-routing or diversion during cable-related incidents.
• Be on standby during irregular hours and public holidays when required.
• Coordinate with planners/contractors for recovery and equipment shutdowns.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

How You will Make An Impact:

• Co-ordinate closely with INOC (Integrated Network Operation Centre) on the timely fault clearing and service restoration of access and transmission equipment in order to meet the SLA (Service Level Agreement).
• Troubleshoot fault related to access and transmission equipment. Escalation to tier two technical support if need arises.
• Responsible for the daily schedule preparation and timely execution of the site survey, installation (including patching work) & commissioning, testing, replacement and preventive maintenance of access and transmission equipment to meet customer and operational requirements.
• Monitor the health and performance of the access and transmission equipment in the network and carry out remedial action accordingly.
• Provide support for re-routing or diversion activities during cable related service incident.
• On standby duties and silent hour recall. Work on irregular hours, such as at night and on public holiday, weekends, at very short notice when need arises.
• Coordinate with planner and contractor on the recovery of transmission equipment including shutting down of non-working equipment.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Skills for Success:

• O Level /A level or ITE in Mechanical Engineering / Electrical engineering or equivalent. Alternatively, the candidate must have minimum three years working experience in the grade of Engineering Officer (Technician) or equivalent experience.
• Good knowledge on telecommunications engineering and the working concepts of the transmission systems. Experience and knowledge in transmission equipment will be an added advantage, such as SDH, GPON, MD, MSAN, IAD, CE, NGCE, IPMD).
• Good knowledge on Fiber patching, Testing, troubleshooting, and is able to use OTDR, power Meter, other fiber testing tolls to isolate the fault
• Good interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work as a team.
• Able to work during non-office hours on an occasional basis and be on 24 x 7 hours standby alert for ad-hoc faults.
• Good analytical troubleshooting skills in the area of technical fault isolation.
