Job summary

ENGIE South East Asia, based in Singapore, is seeking a Cooling Systems Senior Engineer to lead the detailed design work by external engineering firms and support the project management team through construction to ensure the system performances are achieved.

You will assist the design of district cooling, chilled water and airside systems during feasibility and front end engineering, coordinating with stakeholders across functions and delivering high-quality technical solutions in Singapore.

Qualifications

• 3+ years as design engineer / senior engineer for district cooling, HVAC or large-scale buildings' waterside cooling systems.
• Experience in cooling systems design and control systems is advantageous.
• Singapore-certified energy manager or equivalent will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Supervise detailed design outsourced to reputable consultants; review P&IDs and control sequences.
• Coordinate with client, consultants, vendors and contractors to ensure high-quality design and no scope gaps.
• Establish equipment specifications and terms of reference for tendering.
• Review offers for technical compliance from vendors and contractors.
• Support project management during construction to validate variations and ensure compliance.
• During FEED and Basic Design, support design of district cooling and energy-performance contracts, optimize configurations and sizing of main equipment.
• Draft technical proposals and investment content; support BD team in client discussions.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

At ENGIE South East Asia, we set very ambitious target to help our Clients decarbonize through various pathways, i.e. energy efficiency projects, on‑site utilities supply, district cooling systems, solar power generation, etc. Our business model is to design, finance, build and operate the Assets with Performance guarantees over long terms.

As the Cooling Systems Senior Engineer, you will have to conduct the detailed design executed by external engineering firms and support the project management team during detailed engineering and construction phase to ensure the committed system technical performances are achieved. You will also support the design of district cooling, chilled water and airside systems during feasibility study and front end engineering design.

Reporting to the Engineering Director - Cooling Systems, you will be part of the engineering team. You will work closely with Business Development teams, Construction Management team, local entities as well as our internal Digital team, Assets Performance Management team and Operation team. You will be based in Singapore.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Cooling Systems Senior Engineer will:

• Supervise the detailed design outsourced to reputable consultants: review the P&IDs, validate the control strategy of the systems, I/O points and sequence of operation
• Coordinate with the different project stakeholders (client, consultants, Qualified Person / Professional Engineer, vendors, contractors…) to ensure a smooth flow of information and ensure the design is developed in collaboration with all parties with good quality and no scope gaps
• Establish the equipment specifications and terms of reference for the tendering process
• Review equipment vendors’ offers and ensure technical compliance
• Review contractors’ offers and ensure technical compliance
• Support project management team during the construction works to validate variations and ensure the technical compliance of the works
• During concept and basic design stage:
• Support the design for chilled water energy performance contracts and district cooling systems, with the following responsibilities:
• Analyse and interpret customer cooling requirements and load profiles
• Optimise the system configuration, capacities and technology for lowest life cycle cost
• Provide sizing and specifications for the main equipment (chillers, pumps, thermal energy storage, cooling towers, heat exchangers, air handling units and fan coil units) with the projects constraints in mind (efficiency target, level of CAPEX, site constraints, operation and maintenance constraints…). Provide optimum control strategies
• Draft and float Requests for Proposals for external consultants, suppliers and contractors. Evaluate tender responses
• Provide inputs for CAPEX and OPEX assessment
• Commit to the system efficiency
• Draft technical proposals, internal memos/reports and technical content of investment files
• Support Business Development team in discussions / presentations to the client

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Education and Qualification:
• Degree in Thermal, Mechanical, Process Engineering, Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (Building Services) or equivalent
• Singapore Certified Energy Manager, BCA registered Energy Auditor or ESCO accreditation will be an advantage
• Experience:
• Past experience of at least 3 years as design engineer / senior engineer for district cooling, HVAC project or large scale building waterside cooling systems
• Experience in cooling systems design and control systems, would be an advantage
• Specific skills:
• Ability to work (speak, read, write) fluently in English
• Excellent knowledge of usual IT tools (Excel, Power BI, Word, PowerPoint…)
