Job summary

SPH Media in Singapore is seeking a versatile data journalist and visual storyteller to write, design and help the newsroom’s developers build compelling data-driven stories, including interactive graphics and maps.

You will collaborate with reporters to source and verify data, use HTML, CSS and JavaScript (React/Vue/Svelte) to deliver visualisations, and apply data analysis techniques. Familiarity with d3.js/Mapbox is a plus and you should be comfortable with flexible hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, graphic design, data science, statistics or computer science.
• Experience in journalism and reporting is an advantage.
• Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and at least one frontend framework (React, VueJS, Svelte) is essential.
• Experience with data visualisation libraries such as d3.js and Mapbox. Experience with serverless computing (AWS) is an advantage.
• Experience with one or more common databases, SQL, scripting languages (R, Python, Perl) is preferred.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, graphic design, data science, statistics or computer science
• Experience in journalism and reporting (including internship) is an advantage
• Comfortable in either two or more of the following: journalism and/or reporting; data visualisation and/or infographics design; front-end web development; or data analysis programming.
• Experience working with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript including one frontend framework (React, VueJS, Svelte) is essential.
• Experience building interactive graphics using libraries such as d3.js and Mapbox. Experience with serverless computing (AWS) is an advantage.
• Experience with one or more common databases, SQL, scripting languages (R, Python, Perl) is preferred.
• Familiar with the latest digital storytelling, data journalism and visual trends.
• A team player, willing to share and support other team members
• Attention to details, and demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Able to work on a flexible schedule, that may include nights or weekends.
