Job summary

SPH Media in Singapore is seeking a data-driven journalist to write, design and help build visual stories for the newsroom, including data visualisations and interactive graphics.

You will collaborate with fellow reporters to verify data sources, use statistics and data science tools for parsing and wrangling, and contribute to data-driven storytelling across formats.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, graphic design, data science, statistics or computer science.
• Experience in journalism and reporting is an advantage.
• Comfortable in two or more of: journalism, data visualization, front-end web development, or data analysis programming.
• Experience building interactive graphics using libraries such as d3.js and Mapbox; AWS/serverless is a plus.
• Experience with databases, SQL and scripting languages (R, Python, Perl) preferred.

• Use analytics to evaluate stories and propose changes to workflow, concepts.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, graphic design, data science, statistics or computer science
• Experience in journalism and reporting (including internship) is an advantage
• Comfortable in either two or more of the following: journalism and/or reporting; data visualisation and/or infographics design; front-end web development; or data analysis programming.
• Experience building interactive graphics using libraries such as d3.js and Mapbox. Experience with serverless computing (AWS) is an advantage.
• Experience with one or more common databases, SQL, scripting languages (R, Python, Perl) is preferred.
• Familiar with the latest digital storytelling, data journalism and visual trends.
• A team player, willing to share and support other team members
• Attention to details, and demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Able to work on a flexible schedule, that may include nights or weekends.
