Job description

About Us

Mothership is one of Singapore’s leading digital media companies.

In our continued quest to capture the hearts and minds of tomorrow’s generations, we are inviting passionate, driven and dynamic individuals to join us to reinvent and drive the next chapter of our growth.

Through our work, we hope to help shape culture and conversations and capture and express the hopes, the concerns, the passions and the aspirations of the communities that we are a part of. We do so by creating and documenting stories and experiences that matter to Singaporeans. And to have Fun.

At Mothership, people are at the heart of everything we do — our team, our audiences, and our communities. We’re committed to creating the right conditions for our colleagues to thrive and to providing the leadership and guidance necessary for our teammates to experience professional advancement and personal growth.

The Role

As a Media Journalist, you will bridge the gap between written digital journalism and social media storytelling. You are a hybrid news creator—someone who can break a current affairs story in a sharp, engaging article for our website and just as easily script and create an Instagram Reel or TikTok video on the exact same topic.

Working as part of our evolving, integrated newsroom, you will play a pivotal role in keeping our audience informed, entertained, and engaged. From hunting down breaking news leads to hitting "publish" on our CMS and social feeds, you will own the content life cycle across multiple platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Newsgathering & Writing: Participate in daily newsgathering, pursue leads, conduct research, and write accurate, compelling news and current affairs articles for Mothership’s website.

Social Media Content Creation: Conceptualise and edit high-quality short-form video content and visual assets that bring trending news and human-interest stories to life visually.

Trend Spotting & Ideation: Stay hyper-aware of breaking news, trending topics, and viral social media mechanics. Use this knowledge to quickly ideate and execute timely, platform-appropriate content.

Cross-Platform Strategy: Collaborate closely with the rest of the editorial team to pitch multi-platform story ideas, ensuring the content aligns with Mothership's brand voice.

An evening shift option is available for this position, with working hours from 4pm to 11pm, Mondays through Fridays.

Job Requirements

Are you a news junkie who practically lives on social media? Do your friends depend on you to give a TL;DR of the latest happenings in Singapore, and do you naturally find yourself mapping out how a written headline could be turned into a viral TikTok?

You should apply if you possess:
  • A relevant diploma or degree such as liberal arts, media studies, journalism, design, politics, philosophy, legal studies, economics, environment studies, filmmaking, public relations, governance and so on.
  • A strong news sense and an ability to construct, produce or script a news-related, current affairs story in various media formats.
  • An analytical and critical mind and a keen eye for detail regarding issues that matter to our audiences.
  • A strong command of the English language with the ability to work creatively under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Deep familiarity with social media trends, formats, and algorithms—particularly on TikTok and Instagram.
  • Strong creative storytelling abilities, paired with some proficiency in video production and mobile/desktop editing (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, Canva, or similar software).
  • An eye for design to create visually appealing social assets that capture immediate attention.
  • The ability to work under pressure to meet breaking news deadlines

Crucially, you must possess the mental stamina, tenacity, and agility to work in an intensely dynamic, fast-paced, and competitive media environment.

If you're a great communicator with a keen understanding of the news cycle and social media landscape, we’re happy to consider your application and help you bridge any technical skill gaps.

Senior positions are available for candidates with 2–3+ years of experience in newsgathering, reporting, and multimedia video production.
