Job summary

metasphere global services pte. ltd. is seeking a database professional to onboard and configure database servers, ensure high availability, and manage backups and recovery in a Singapore-based setup.

The role requires strong SQL, data modelling, data analysis, and hands-on work with PostgreSQL, Yugabyte, and cloud databases such as AWS RDS, plus Python/PySpark on Linux with Informatica for ETL workflows.

Qualifications

• Experience in database administration and support.
• Strong PostgreSQL or Yugabyte experience.
• SQL, data modelling and data analysis proficiency.
• Experience with Python, PySpark, Linux, and Informatica.
• Familiarity with Hive, Impala and Cloudera Data Platform preferred.
• Experience in Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Application onboarding and configuring of database servers according to best practices.
• Designing and maintaining high availability solutions like replication and failover setups is vital to ensure database uptime. Engineers also plan for disaster recovery scenarios to minimize data loss.
• Schedule regular backups, test recovery procedures, and ensure data integrity to minimize downtime in case of system failures.
• Monitor database performance and identify bottlenecks or areas of improvement. This includes analysing query performance, optimizing database schema, and adjusting server settings to ensure optimal performance.
• Keeping PostgreSQL up to date with the latest patches and versions is crucial for security and feature enhancements. Support Engineers plan and execute upgrades carefully to avoid disruptions.
• Plan for database growth by assessing current usage patterns and making scaling recommendations.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Relevant working experience in database administration and support
• Strong experience in Yugabyte and/or PostgreSQL.
• Strong SQL, data modelling and data analysis skills are a must.
• Hands-on experience in big data engineering jobs using Python, PySpark, Linux, and ETL tools like Informatica.
• Track record in implementing systems using Hive, Impala and Cloudera Data Platform will be preferred.
• Experience in Oracle, Microsoft SQL, MySQL,
• Experience in cloud databases (e.g. AWS RDS).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communications and interpersonal skills with stakeholders across levels
• Good vendor management skills, and knowledge of industry best practices
• Certifications in ITIL and above database technologies will be an advantage
