Job summary

Toku Ltd. is seeking a senior cloud database engineer to own production operations for our AWS-based MySQL platform. You will drive reliability, automation and performance improvements across a globally distributed SaaS environment.

You will work closely with the Lead Database Engineer, handle incidents, implement scalable tooling, and collaborate with software teams to optimise data and query performance while ensuring high availability and auditability.

Qualifications

• Around 5–8 years of hands-on experience operating production databases within AWS cloud environments.
• Strong practical experience with Amazon RDS is essential.
• Strong production experience administering and optimising MySQL databases.
• Experience managing cloud-managed database services rather than traditional on-premise database infrastructure.
• Practical experience automating operational tasks using scripting languages such as Python, SQL or similar.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day production database operations, health and availability, and continuous improvement of the production MySQL databases on AWS RDS.
• Take ownership of production incidents, perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis, restore service quickly and implement permanent improvements.
• Identify repetitive operational work and build scalable automation workflows to reduce manual effort and risk.
• Improve database change and data-fix workflows with safer, auditable processes.
• Collaborate with software engineers to understand application behavior, investigate issues, and tune queries.
